The role Business in Climate Change
The phenomenon which results in seasonal changes over a long period with respect to growing accumulation of green gases in the atmosphere is mainly attributed by the innovative initiatives from business as a human activity. This is because business is termed as world’s most powerful economic driving force and closely associated with actions such as spending, wealth creation, and investments (Bakker, 2016). In order to satisfy the named actions, business stakeholders have come up with various industries such as coal processing plants, mining, manufacturing plants among others that greatly contribute to greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and resulting in global warming hence climate change.
Through business activities comes sustainable development and other vital benefits. However, business activities contribute to climate change. The seasonal changes in the climate affect the individual companies as it interferes with raw materials extraction, availability distribution, and supply. For example in 2011 the drought affected the great plains of United States, this forced several meat processing plants to close or otherwise relocate the business.
Through investing in smart businesses, it will be very possible to manage global warming which will result in climate change reduction. Smart businesses achieve this through use of renewable energy, deploying innovative low- carbon technologies, sustainably sourcing resources, working on innovative and transformative solutions and other effective actions that can help reduce green house gases in the atmosphere. Greater progress has also been made by creation of global initiative such as Low Carbon Technology Partnership Initiative (LCTPi). Which have made have made a number of proposals with regards to green technology. Though most companies treat climate change management as an operational efficiency which is a short term rather than the creation a long term sustainable value which is unacceptable
