Cohesive Curriculum
The following is a cohesive curriculum for the four states, namely, Florida, Montana, Texas, and Virginia. The strategy for implementation the cohesive curriculum is through an advocacy campaign for the school of nursing to align the nursing program in such a way that it will meet all policy, licensure, and educational requirements in the four states. Luckily, Florida, Montana, Texas, and Virginia are all members of an Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC); implying that Registered Nurses and licensed vocational/practical nurses can have a multistate license (Nursing License Map, 2020). The cohesive curriculum for the four states is as follows:
1. Reflect nursing guiding principles, purpose, organization framework, and objectives of the educational program as well as be consistent with rules and statutes that govern the nursing practice. The program must meet the national nursing standards of practice and codes of ethics for nursing practice (Nursing License Map, 2020).
2. Complete an approved Registered Nurse Program and pass NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses) examination (Florida Board of Nursing, 2020; Nursing License Map, 2020). Complete a one year certificate program or diploma to be a Licensed Vocational Nurse. A Registered Nurse must complete 2 year associate’s degree or a 4-year baccalaureate degree (Texas Board of Nursing, 2020).
3. An individual candidate must complete an approved a given professional nursing program. Besides, candidates must complete required clinical work to gain clinical experience (Virginia Board of Nursing, 2020).
4. Demonstrate that the link between pragmatic outcomes and simulation activities.
5. Reflect evidence of current professional standards and practice guidelines and current trends.
6. Concepts on provision of person-centered care across a lifespans should be included in the curriculum; the concepts are not limited to risk reduction, health maintenance promotion and restoration, palliative care, and disease prevention.
7. For each and every clinical credit, there ought to be at least 2 hours of appropriate applied experience.
8. In a course that utilizes simulations, no more that 50% of hours spent in clinical hours shall be substituted with simulation hours.
9. At least 500 hours of directly supervised client care done by a faculty member (Virginia Board of Nursing, 2020).
