 Columbine School Shootings

The reports on school shootings are usually devastating and shocking at the same time. It is difficult to fathom that a child could ideally sit down and plan to kill others before taking their life. in essence, when such reports first com out, it is difficult to think otherwise except to try and find fault with the suspect so as to make the news sensible and believable. However, upon reading the article about correcting the myths associated with the Columbine shooting, my perspective on the school shootings is significantly changed. This is because, in an era of modern technology, a great portion of the population tends to receive news through the various social media sites or shared pictures (Chen, 2009). Prior to even the various news stations reporting incidents, word is usually out about a school shooting making it difficult to distinguish the facts from information that is based on attention seeking. The information with the Columbine shooting was majorly based on fallacies which in many ways rendered it impossible for the public to really reconsider the reality of the true events even a decade after the Columbine shooting (Chen, 2009). It is however not surprising that the events leading to the Columbine shooting were different from what was reported initially. This is because, in many of the reported school shootings, the information relied upon during the live reporting is usually from the shared perspectives of the public as opposed to the actual facts that lead to the shooting. It is only after the situation has been handled that the proper investigations are conducted and information shared is often different from the initial reports creating almost parallel dimensions of the reports.
