The development of a vibrant principled code for AASP members’ work-related conduct necessitates a commitment to an enduring determination to act ethically and encourage ethical behaviors (Gill, Williams & Reifsteck, 2017). Dr. Santino who works both as a consultant for management and as an individual therapist for members of the team can get into some certain ethical dilemma. One of the ethical principles which guides AASP member is Professional and Scientific Responsibility. This principle states that AASP members are accountable for protecting the public and AASP from followers who lack ethical conduct (Etzel & Watson II, 2016). Working both as a consultant for management and individual therapist may not allow him to make correct decisions since both of the parties, the management and individual members, depend on his decision. For example, when of one the players violate the law, as a therapist he would want to counsel the player so that he can stay in the team. On the other hand, the laws of the management state that violation of the rules leads to dismiss. It is in this context that he will compromise part of the management laws or his counseling rules in order to ensure that both parties are satisfied. However, this may lead to dishonesty and mistrust.
If I am in Dr. Santino’s shoes, I would choose to work in one position in the organization. Since dealing with individuals brings great experience and enables one to work with different individuals from dissimilar backgrounds, I would opt to work as individual therapist. I do not think is possible to work for long both as a consultant for management and as an individual therapist for members of the team. At one point, there is a possibility of compromising the ethics of one side in order to favor another side, and that is not fair.
