Research/Clinical Question
To improve high-quality healthcare access and reduce health disparities, cultural respect is required while addressing patient needs. To provide culturally sensitive care, nurses are required to respond to the patient’s changing demographics (Constantinou, Papageorgiou, Samoutis, & McCrorie, 2018). Culturally competent nursing care, therefore, refers to the development of awareness of the individual environment, thoughts, sensations, and existence without subjecting to undue influence on people from different backgrounds (Göl & Erkin, 2018). Culturally competent nurses must know and understand the patient’s nature and respect and accept their cultural disparities (Darnell & Hickson, 2015). This paper seeks to explore the databases and research strategies that can be employed to retrieve facts concerning culturally competent nursing care.
Databases to search
Google Scholar allows specifically scholarly literature search from all broad research areas. Scholarly literature, in this case, includes technical reports, abstracts, preprints, books, theses, and peer-reviewed papers. Google scholar also allows access to a variety of universities, preprint repositories, professional societies, academic publishers, and web-based scholarly articles. It is prudent to note that google scholar is free and does not require any subscription.
PubMed, on the other hand, consists of over 29 million biomedical literature from online books, life science journals, and MEDLINE. The content found in the database includes publisher websites or links to full-text content. The database is rich in medical related articles from various fields and provides credible sources to back my research. The database is free since it is part of the US national medical library
The other database is ScienceDirect which is a source of. medical, technical, and scientific research information. More than 1000 ebooks and over 700 journals can be found from the database and each of them can be accessed from the catalog. This database narrows down the search from a multidisciplinary course to a science and specifically medical research. Besides, there is no subscription required making it easy to access information at o cost.
