  1. Question
  2. Paper Details

    Length and format:

Part A: 1-2 minute video CV

Part B: 1000 word database of preferred employers

Submission: Uploaded to MySCU (see Assessment Details link)

    Guidelines:

This assessment is designed to assess your professionalism and preparedness for applying for internship and/or employment positions. In addition to the written curriculum vitae (CV), a video CV can be used to gain a competitive advantage in the job market. A video CV (video résumé) is a presentation of oneself in video format and will provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your verbal and non-verbal communication skills.  The video CV can assist you in establishing your fit for the role and is valuable in preparing for employment interviews.

You will need to construct and submit your own video CV and a database of your top five (5) organisations who you might send this video CV to in the future when applying for an internship and/or graduate position.

Part A: Video CV / résumé

You will need to record and submit a video CV (VCV) that you would realistically use in the employment selection process. Remember to be succinct as the recording should be only 1 to 2 minutes in length.

You will be assessed on the content of your video CV, your verbal expression and your non-verbal delivery.

Part B: A database of preferred employers

Create an annotated database of your top five specific organisations identified as your preferred potential employers.  Use appropriate headings numbered 1–5 ensuring each organisation is listed in order of preference (i.e. your most preferred organisation is number 1, your second choice employer is number 2 etc.).

Use the following headings, to ensure all relevant information is provided and then include a short review (1–2 paragraphs) of the career prospects available within each selected organisation:

    • Company name
    • Contact person
    • Contact person's position title
    • Postal address
    • Phone number
    • Email
    • Website – [Copy the link to the page you are referring to here]
    • Other links – [If there is a specific employment and/or internship link, copy this link here]
    • Overview of [Insert organisation name here].

Below the contact details include 1–2 paragraphs regarding:

    • what each organisation is renowned for
    • the types of career opportunities available in this organisation
    • which position interests you and why YOU would like to work for them (ie what do you think is the most appealing aspect of this organisation).
