This paper discusses two research articles entitled Infection prevention and control during the COVID-19 pandemic: challenges and opportunities for Kenyan public hospitals by Maina et al. (2020) and The impact of COVID-19 pandemic on hand hygiene performance in hospitals by Moore et al. (2021). The paper commences by describing why each of the research studies is classified as qualitative or quantitative and proceeds to provide a justification of the selection of these two articles. The paper then concludes by providing a rationale for the selection of the journals in which the each of the articles was published and a link to each of the chosen articles.

The articles by Maina et al. (2020) and Moore et al. (2021) have been selected owing to the fact that they are peer-reviewed and focus on the current global issue, which in this case is COVID19 that has adversely impacted the globe economically, socially, and politically. The article by Maina et al. (2020) is considered a qualitative study owing to three reasons. First, qualitative studies describe experiences and explore the complexity, depth, and richness inherent within a phenomenon (Gravetter & Forzano, 2018). The article by Maina et al. (2020) explores the opportunities and challenges for public hospitals for the prevention and control of infection during the COVID 19 pandemic. Second, the article employs interview, particularly semi-structured interview, in gathering data, which is a qualitative data gathering method as argued by Gravetter and Forzano (2018). Third, the article employs content analysis in evaluating data, which is a qualitative data analysis technique as argued by Gravetter and Forzano (2018). On the other hand, three reasons contribute to the categorization of the article by Moore et al. (2021) as a quantitative study. First, Gravetter and Forzano (2018) assert that quantitative studies focus on the correlation between two or more variables. In relation to this, the article by Moore et al. (2021) studies the correlation between COVID19 pandemic and rates of hand hygiene performance, which makes it a quantitative study. Second, the article employs questionnaire, quantitative data gathering technique, in collecting data. Third, the analysis of data in this article is accomplished using statistical analyses, which is quantitative data analysis method as argued by Gravetter and Forzano (2018).

The American Journal of Infection Control is preferred owing to its reputation for the publication of peer-reviewed scientific articles. The journal is prominent for publishing articles detailing original research on infectious diseases, epidemiology, and infection control. The Wellcome Open Research journal was chosen as it is reputable for publishing scholarly articles. The journal serves as an innovative open access publishing platform that offers rapid publication and transparent peer review, while supporting disposition of data, transparent peer review, and rapid publication (Wellcome Open Research, n.d.). Besides, the journal offers editorial guidance on how to ensure the availability of all source data in an open manner (Wellcome Open Research, n.d.).

In conclusion, this paper has effectively discussed two research studies by justifying their selection, classifying them as qualitative and quantitative, and explaining the reasons for these classifications, and providing a rationale f
