LACE Model
The LACE model is a framework designed to promote healthcare by assessing the credibility of different nursing roles. Functions of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) have expanded rapidly; thus, emerging a central element in healthcare that is responsible for the population's current and future health needs. Consequently, to control the number of registered nurses that should be allowed to practice, the LACE model was formulated; hence, it is used to evaluate APRNs based on licensure, accreditation, certification, and education (APNA, n. d). This essay evaluates the importance of the LACE model.
Uniformity in healthcare is an important element that can be achieved with the integration of the LACE model. The Lace model comprises licensure, accreditation, certification, and education (NCSBN, n. d). Licensure entails gaining authorization to engage in nursing practices, accreditation involves receiving a mandate from either an educational or nursing institution, certification is the recognition credited towards particular skills or knowledge, and education is the enrollment of APRNs in a certificate or degree program (APNA, n. d). Therefore, by integrating the given model at all states, nurses will be enabled to practice at a full scope; thus, increasing their mobility across states.
Adoption of the LACE model will promote patient safety and inclusion, thereby improving healthcare delivery. Patient safety and inclusion will be promoted by the adequate training of nurses who are more informed about patient diversity and the importance of incorporating patient-centeredness. Additionally, innovativeness in the health sector will be enhanced, and evidence-based services will be utilized.
LACE model helps promote accountability among healthcare workers. The sense of accountability arises among APRNs due to the consistent training they receive regarding their roles. Therefore, each nurse is made fully aware of his given functions, making him only practice within his scope. Failure to practice within one's scope will render the nurse incompetent and eligible for disciplinary action by the state board of nursing (NurseJournalStaff, 2021).
