    Discussion: Creating Interview Questions

    Discussion: Creating Interview Questions
Sam Pederson, the head of HR at Leeland Radiological Laboratory, met with the manager of the X-ray department to get a better idea of the kind of individual they needed to fill the vacant assistant X-ray technician position. Later, Sam reflected on how the manager described the department and the role. He then began drafting interview questions that would help Sam determine whether the applicant was a good fit.
The interview process is a key component of the employee recruiting process. Designing a good interview can lead to hiring the right person for a job and may even predict future employee performance (Foster, 2013). Interviewing is a skill that requires training (Quinn, 2018). The interview process can be successful if the interviewer has structure and format, follows guidelines, and conducts it in a staged manner (Steindhart, 2017).
In this Discussion you will select a position in the field of healthcare and imagine you are an HR manager who will be conducting interviews for this position. Then, you will draft several interview questions in preparation for the interview.
    To prepare for this Discussion:
    • Review Chapter 11 and 13 of the Fallon and McConnell textbook. Focus on the involvement of both management and HR personnel in the recruiting process and conducting interviews.
    • Select a position in the field of healthcare to focus on for this Discussion. You may find one published on the website of one of your local healthcare organizations or posted on Indeed.com or Monster.com.
    • Imagine you are an HR manager who will be conducting interviews for the position you selected.
    • Develop at least one open-ended interview question for each of the following areas you would pose during the interview.
    o Organizational culture
    o Organizational fit
o Organizational fit as related to diversity
o Organizational fit as related to inclusion
o Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance at the workplace
o Legal issues and government regulations
    o Question of character
Post a comprehensive response to the following:
    • Provide a brief description of the healthcare position you selected
    • Provide the interview questions you created that can be used to ascertain the perceptions of the interviewee on:
    o Organizational culture
    o Organizational fit
o Organizational fit as related to diversity
o Organizational fit as related to inclusion
o EEOC and ADA compliance at the workplace
o Legal issues and government regulations
    o Question of character
    • Provide a brief rationale for each question.
Support your Discussion and peer responses with in-text citations and references from specific Learning Resources.

Answer

Interview Questions for a Registered Nurse Position.

Brief Description of the Healthcare Position

Outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic stressed the healthcare system, and this has prompted the hiring of additional registered nurses (RNs) as one of the key frontline workers in the fight against the disease. To help meet the growing demand for healthcare services – nursing services in particular – in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, our healthcare facility seeks to fill two positions of a Registered Nurse (RN). The RN will be responsible for the coordinating patient care, providing patients’ families with emotional support, helping physicians in treating patients, educating patients and the public on medical conditions, and fulfilling other nursing requirements. Specific duties of the RN will include monitoring patients, keeping accurate patient reports, administering medications, observing side effects of prescribed medications, and advising patients and their families on their health conditions (The Balance Careers, 2020). The RN will also be tasked with performing diagnostic tests, supervising licensed/ certified nurses who are less skilled, preparing patients of medical examinations, performing special tests, interpreting diagnostic tests, implementing orders from the physician, and collaborating with the rest of the nursing team to provide patient-centered care (Top RN To BSN, 2020).

Interview Questions and Rationale

Organizational culture

  1. What type of work environment would you wish to work in?
  2. How did you adapt to working conditions in your last employment?

Interviewee’s response to these questions will provide an insight into his/her ability to collaborate and work in a team.

Organizational Fit

  1. Where do envision in the next five years?

This interview question will help determine if the interviewee’s career growth objectives align with the organization’s goals and vision.

Organizational Fit in Relation to diversity

  1. What do you find the most challenging issue when working in a diverse workplace?

The way the interviewee responds to this question will inform the understanding of his/her knowledge and awareness of potential challenges in diverse work environments, as well as his/her ability to address the challenges.

Organizational fit in relation to inclusion

  1. Please share with this panel what inclusion means to you and why you personally find it important.

Inclusion and diversity are often inseparable. Thus, the interviewee’s knowledge of inclusion and its importance in the work environment will mean that he/she will be committed to promoting the two concepts in the organization (Mason, 2020).

EEOC and ADA compliance at the workplace

  1. What advice would you give to coworker who shares with you about experience of discrimination on the basis of his/her race, gender, age or physical disability?

This question will test the candidate on his/her understanding of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and how issues of non-compliance can be addressed, and by whom.

Conclusively, the advanced composition course has been insightful to me. Notably, I have gained and improved myself in skills such as writing, researching, presenting, working in teams, and using technological tools. I believe that each of these competencies will be essential in my career in both the short and long and run.
