QUESTION

Early Interventions

The early childhood years are crucial for laying a foundation for learning. Many factors can impair development during these important years. When young children are not meeting developmental milestones and learning goals, intervention may be necessary. As a teacher of young children, you will be responsible for intervening with strategies appropriate for the student and family.
Observe your mentor teacher implementing one or more interventions or modifications with students in the classroom. During the observation, document how the students respond to the interventions/modifications. Assist with implementing the interventions or modifications, if possible. Following the observation and assistance, discuss the interventions or modifications with your mentor teacher.

In 250, summarize and reflect on the intervention strategies or modifications you observed and/or helped to implement. In what areas of need was the intervention/modification intended to help the students? Did the intervention/modification appear to be successful? How do you know? How will you use this in your future professional practice?

Answer

Classroom Interventions to Improve Early Learning and Development in Children

Learning involves a range of aspects that include cultivation of the child’s emotionally, mentally, socially and intellectually. As such, early learning determines the future education of a child. However, factors such as negative family behavior, poor nutrition, poor learning environmental, inadequate physical exercises and negative social interactions may greatly hinder a child from achieving his/ her goals. Therefore, necessary interventions should be made to ensure proper learning and development of children at their early childhood as described in this paper.

While observation my mentor, I realized that he implemented a positive parent-teacher working relationship using reports and meetings. Parker (1994) contended that negative family behavior; especially parental carelessness and mistreatment would deter a child’s ability to learning and develop.  Having realized this, my mentor reached out to parents and guardians of his students in a bid to eradicate challenges that these learners were experiencing. Moreover, the mentor ensured that he provided the parents or guardians with regular progress reports of their children. This intervention cultivated a positive rapport and cooperation between learners and the mentor thus fostered positive learning and growth among students.

A major area of need where the intervention was intended to assist the learners was the social interactions and connections. Essentially, Parker (1994) posited that negative social interactions usually hinder learning and growth of learners and that such problem can be solved by implementing interactive learning approach. During the observation, I noted that the mentor used student centered approach where learners were allowed to interact amongst themselves while handling different class activities. This provided learners with a chance to exercise themselves freely as the mentor facilitated the process, a situation that results in a better achievement because it fostered team work and promoted understanding among learners.

Essentially, the interventions used by the mentor were successful because they resulted in a positive understanding of academic activities and yielded amicable solutions to learners. More importantly, the interventions cultivated positive behavior among learners, especially those who were more social and interactive. In my future professional practice, I will ensure that parents and children are involved in all learning activities. This will not only help parents understand various learning needs and challenges of their children but also enable them to provide the necessary support to such learners. Similarly, involving children in learning activities will enable me to understand cognitive abilities of the learners and thus develop learning content that meet their capabilities.

  1. QUESTION

Software Acquisition

Consider the following scenario:
The large medical supply company, MSC, has decided to install business intelligence (BI) software, a technology intended to provide monitoring and analysis capabilities. The goal is to make better use of information generated by its operations and better serve its customers. The software should have the following functionality:
Dashboards: graphical one-screen summaries of important information
Extraction or retrieval of data from one or more sources within a company such as data warehouses, standalone databases, enterprise applications, and other repositories
Data mining or statistical analysis of historical data
Predefined reports, analyses, dashboards, ad-hoc querying and reporting (In addition to predefined analyses, BI software should allow users to quickly develop their own reports, graphs, etc.)
Predictive analytics—statistically based forecasts of future events and trends
Event notification—alerts to users based on predefined occurrences
Distribution or sharing of the BI output
——————————————————————
Now write and include the following:
1) An explanation of what criteria you would consider to make a decision for acquiring the BI software, including purchasing, leasing, in-house development, and outsourcing development
2) A justification for your choices
3) An explanation of what you would change if you were looking to apply “green” principles
