Answer
Effective Project Management
The Nutmeg Manufacturing Company has been experiencing several setbacks in its business operations, for the last three years. As a result, it has been forced to do away with some of its staff members, in an attempt to minimize operational costs. Business seems to be recovering and the company has decided to initiate an office move. In other words, the head office building is planning to move to a cheap, smaller, modern building, where the HR department will be the first to relocate. In this regard, the new director, who recently joined the organization, wants the process to be conducted smoothly and act as a guide for the other departmental moves. This paper will highlight one of the issues, which is likely to arise during the shift and elaborate effective ways to resolve it.
Many initiatives within various organizations are run by project managers, who are responsible for planning and allocating resources towards their completion. In this regard, project managers should be able to anticipate and resolve any problem, which may hinder the successful completion of their projects (Gido et al., 2014). There are several issues that are likely to arise during the office move project. One of them is the lack of alignment between the new director’s expectations, and the project success criteria. The director would like the furniture and new partitions delivered and setup within one day, prior to any move of personnel and office equipment. On the other hand, the whole process is likely to take longer, based on the lead times estimation (Freeman & Beale, 2013). In this regard, the problem can be resolved by discussing the issue with the director, and setting out a strategic plan on how the project will be carried out in each phase (Horine, 2012). This may include allocating various tasks to different people, and setting out the objectives of the assignment, such that all key stakeholders are on the same page and share a common vision of the project results.
In conclusion, effective project management requires project managers to work, hand in hand, with key stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of their assignments. In other words, they should make sure that all persons involved in the project understand what it entails, and are in agreement with the intended objectives. This will help in identifying and resolving any issues that may arise during the course of the project. Moreover, it will ensure that everyone involved in the task is responsible and held accountable for their actions.
