     Introduction and Background

                 In this section of your paper, you will begin to explain what your change project topic is. Include background information you have obtained. Make sure to discuss the importance of your topic and why there is a need for it to be researched and implemented in your assigned facility or in advanced practice nursing in general.

     Problem Identification and Description Using PICOT Format

                 This area of your paper should focus on identifying and describing the patient/population or process problem that will drive your change project. Include who is affected, what interventions you are considering, what alternatives there are to consider, what outcomes you are seeking, and your anticipated timeframe. All of these items make up the PICOT format. Describe each item in depth and then provide the research question in PICOT format that you plan to use to guide your literature review.

     Remember that your PICOT question will fall under one of these types:

     • Therapy/Prevention: For therapy, you might ask, “What is the best treatment or intervention for diabetes?” For prevention, you might ask “How can I prevent diabetes from occurring?”
     • Diagnosis/Assessment: “What is the best way to assess or what is the best diagnostic test for the patient with diabetes?”
     • Etiology: “What causes diabetes in the first place?”
     • Prognosis: “What are the long term effects of diabetes?”

     Critical Appraisal/Integrative Literature Review

     In this section, you will write about your literature review. A literature review is an examination of what has been written about a topic and gives you a chance to see what the current state of knowledge is on a topic. It is important that your topic is not too broad. You want to narrow your topic down and learn everything you can. Talk to someone (like a professor or your preceptor) who knows about the topic you are researching. Use the PICOT formatted research question you developed to guide your search.

     Your review must be an integrative review, which is the one most commonly used in nursing schools. This is when you synthesize your research by drawing overall conclusions from many separate studies that are believed to address related or identical hypotheses. It is important to remember that integrate means to coordinate or blend items into one unit. Integrative reviews report on the current state of knowledge about a topic as a whole, not as a list of separate items. Do not start every paragraph listing a separate author or study you have retrieved and analyzed. An integrative literature review is not an annotated bibliography in which you briefly summarize each article that you have reviewed.

     There are five steps in an integrative review:

     1. Identify your research problem.
     2. Collect the data
     3. Evaluate the data
     4. Analyze and interpret findings
     5. Synthesize the current state of knowledge and present future directions for the research

     Basically, you need to know everything there is to know about the topic you are writing about, from what has been published, to what questions still remain unanswered about the topic.

     Project Aims, Values, and Desired Outcomes

     This part of the paper is where you will explain the aims, values, and desired outcomes for your change project. The project aim should include examples of features and functions that will occur as a result of implementing your change project. The values should describe the benefits of the change project implementation to the stakeholders, the organization, and the nursing profession. The desired outcomes specifically state the purpose, quality focus, and viewpoint of the project as well as its expected accomplishments. A project goal should reference the project’s business benefits in terms of cost, time, and/or quality that address individual and family healthcare needs or changes, results, impacts, or consequences that the project has on people, programs, or institutions. Goals and objectives should be measurable, shared, and agreed upon by all key stakeholders. They are directly linked to the concept of project success factors.

     Theoretical Framework

     This is the area of the paper where you will name and define the theoretical or conceptual models that you will use for your project. The theoretical framework provides the organization for the study. It guides you in the interpretation of the results. The importance of the theory is dependent on the degree of research-based evidence and level of its theory development.

     There are four levels of theory development

     1) factor isolating (describe phenomena)

     2) Factor relating (explain phenomena),

     3) Situation relating (predict the relationships between/among phenomena)

     4) Situation producing (control phenomena and relationships)

     You must specifically identify and address two independent theories or conceptual models that relate directly to your change project in addition to the Plan Do Study Act (PDSA) cycle. Keep in mind that your theoretical framework provides the structure for your change project; think of it as a frame for a new home that is being built. The framework is what guides and directs your change project. Basically, it will help make sense of your change project. Make sure to describe how you will apply these theories and models to your change project.

     Proposed Evidence-Based Project Plan

     You will now begin to discuss the type of study you are doing. Describe if it is quantitative or qualitative. Identify what method you will use to obtain information.

     Your plan should also include your environmental assessment of the place/situation in which you are implementing your project. You will include a work breakdown schedule, a proposed budget, and your measurement tools, e.g., surveys or interviews. Remember if you design a survey or any other type of information gathering tool, place a copy in the appendix of your paper. Review the upcoming actual outcomes/evaluation section for possible measurements that could apply to your project.

     Actual Outcomes/Evaluation

     In this section, describe any of the following that apply to your specific change project implementation results. This is a sample list of measurable items that you may have data for: cost savings, improved efficiencies, access to care (visits/procedures/admissions), patient/family satisfaction, associate satisfaction, associate engagement, retention, clinical outcomes, injury prevention, risk reduction, etc.

     Summary and Conclusions

     Wrap up your change project topic here. Discuss your sustainability plan to make sure your project continues on now that you have implemented it and may no be at the facility any longer. Share the pros and cons of the project. You should also include the following, but are not limited to these: a summary of the project, a summary of the main points and findings, the significance of the project to the nursing profession, and recommendations for future research.

            While delivering a speech, persuasion is essential in convincing the audience to listen to their ideas in their address. In An Inconvenient Truth, former US Vice President Al – Gore speaks on global warming as an encroaching crisis affecting its atmosphere and the environment as his central message. Al- Gore effectively persuades the audience into joining his cause against global warming by using persuasive communication strategies, a solid introduction, rhetoric strategies, oral citations, proper speech delivery, and presentation aids to evoke the audience in supporting his cause.

            Al- Gore’s successfully incorporates a solid speech introduction to attract the audience’s attention. He begins the introduction with a joke alluding to him being the “former future president of the United States.” The use of such a satirical comment evokes the audience wondering who would be bold enough to stand on stage after losing a race, such as the presidential election. This captures the audience to be more involving in his speech and sit for a better listening into the matters at hand. Later on, he introduces his speech topic by focusing on his central message, outlining his whole address's main points. Finally, it eases the audience by showing a mangrove parchment indicated to involve the audience in relating to a preserved environment before expounding on his speech. The audience is engaged after this as he gets into his central message and further engaging in his speech.

All these visual aids serve as areas involving the audience's concern and worry over the deteriorating ecosystem around us. Al-Gore was not shy off, including videos of politicians passing over the global warming issue through satirical cartoons while also poking at renowned scientists worldwide who showed the existence of climate change. As much as Al-Gore is a politician, he intended for the audience to understand that his concern was for the environment and endeavors towards combating global warming rather than politically-driven shows with aspirations of a political seat.

Lastly, Al- Gore successfully uses ethos, pathos, and logos strategies to capture the audience's attention in his speech. Ethos employs a sense of trustworthiness and competence that enables the audience to believe in the speaker's credibility. He shows ethos by acknowledging his commitment to the earth as an environmental activist. The documentary shows the incorporation of logos through his presentation of scientific facts that support his claims to global warming as an issue of concern. Lastly, his attributes to incorporate his son's demise into comparing it to his commitment to the environment show pathos as a rhetoric strategy.  Successful integration of photographs and videos of areas affected by global warming helped provoke the audience to support his cause towards alleviating global warming.

In conclusion, Al – Gore effectively incorporates persuasive communication strategies, a solid introduction, rhetoric strategies, oral citations, proper speech delivery, and presentation aids to evoke the audience in supporting his fight against global warming.  Using all these techniques successfully convinces the audience to have a concern about the deteriorating ecosystem. Having watched the documentary, I am persuaded to carry on the legacy of conserving our environment as an environmental ambassador.
