Embedded safeguards to reduce injury and infection in operating room
:dentify a topic related to health care and leadership; this will be the subject of your research paper due in week 7. You will then be working to incorporate a leadership theory or approach discussed in this course and apply it to your leadership in healthcare topic in later weeks. Make sure that your leadership in healthcare topic is neither too broad nor too narrow.
Please note the above general areas must have a narrower focus in order to work well for a research paper. The list above is not exhaustive, but merely suggestions.
Identify a research area and then develop a thesis statement for your research paper. Ensure your topic is presented in descriptive detail and a clear plan for the research paper is identified. Submit a 1- to 2-page, double-spaced paper identifying your topic in descriptive detail, including a clear plan for your research and a thesis statement.

Safety and Care in Healthcare and Leadership
Safety and care is a critical topic of not only discussion but also implementation in the field of healthcare and leadership (Patient Safety Network, 2019). Evidence proves that high reliability is deeply associated with the structure of an organization and its vision for the health industry at large (Oster & Braaten, 2016). However, the burden of high reliability in promoting safety and care for both patients and healthcare workers does not rest on the highest level of management alone. Immediate care-givers are also the prime factors of a well outlined safety and care strategy. In the advent of high risk factors in the healthcare threshold, research recalls for a deep dive into measures centered to address the safety and care issue. Above all, high reliability is the visible venture to promote safety and care, although its implementation requires extensive walkthrough.
The executive and management leadership sectors are systematically battling with patient and nurse safety and care to achieve the best practices of health in the healthcare industry. Their involvement is highly accredited in terms of ensuring patient and staff concerns are looked into, erecting a secure safety culture and being in the frontline of improving safety while monitoring progress (Patient Safety Network, 2019).
High reliability is evident in high risk organizations such as the aviation and acute care hospitals. While it remains a theory as its implementation is unclear and requires zero errors, it is still an issue as it is highly dynamic and unpredictable. Interestingly, Oster & Braaten (2016) argue that these are the conditions of the patient safety continuum. Therefore, it is undeniably necessary for high reliability to be incorporated in healthcare facilities since it fills the gap of the traditional way of thinking– which is usually a threat to patients’ health (Brace, Shabot & Stokes, 2021). With this in mind, leaders in the healthcare faculty need to consider practicing values such as recognizing and addressing small errors as they often amount to trouble, comprehending the essence of these warning signs as they provide intelligence to the system, acknowledging input across all members of the facility and finally preparing early for unexpected outcomes. This reduces failure as it would be noted before its commence (Oster & Braaten, 2016).
Researchers allocate high hospital turnovers to high-level executives as the drivers since the management team ranks high in knowledge of safety and quality measures. Equally, low performing hospital turnovers are related to lack of knowledge on quality and safety measures. To put it right, the executive is responsible for upholding safety and care measures while educating and overseeing on the immediate caregivers and patients (Yates & Kreiser, 2021).
Conclusively, establishing high reliability in safety and care practices requires overall knowledge of the patient history, healthcare workers’ morale and the hospital’s performance. Staying on top of unprecedented risks is also a bundle of early preparedness. The executive and management needs to promulgate an effective methodology to achieve high reliability. Some of the preferred ventures include; enrolling a safety and health management system, commissioning a fast response team, educating the staff on safety policies, establishing a safety acquiescence plan, putting patient-centered care priority, ensuring patients are abreast of safety information and enrolling a safe hospital design (Regis College, 2021).
This assessment encourages a precise study on the importance of high-level leadership towards enhancing reliability in hospitals and improving safety and care, coupled with an intervention on ways of implementing high reliability.
