A course in health sciences equips individuals with advanced research skills and a deeper understanding concerning research processes such as formulating research questions and hypothesis, data analysis, and selecting appropriate study designs, among other important aspects. It is in the light of this background that this paper highlights two major concepts that are likely to be effective in my future professional discipline
One significant concept that I believe will be most applicable in my future professional discipline is data analysis. It entails collecting, evaluating, and interpreting useful data, with an objective to draw conclusions, test hypothesis, or discover new information. In other words, it acts as a filter in acquiring meaningful insights from a complex or huge set of data. In this regard, it will help me make informed decisions in my professional discipline regarding public health issues, and contribute to new knowledge through research, which can be used to influence health policies and promote good health.
The other concept that is likely to be effective in my professional discipline is the ability to select an appropriate study design. In other words, the scientific value and usefulness of a medical research is often determined by the study design. The study design is also essential in planning because it lays down the statistical analysis and significance of the study in question, thus making it more reliable. In this case, the ability to select appropriate study designs will enable me to conduct authentic studies in future and make it easier for me during the planning process.
In conclusion, health sciences are efficient in equipping health professional with research skills which can be utilized in their career lives. In this regard, data analysis and the ability to select an appropriate study design will enable me to conduct authentic studies and interpret data effectively in my future professional discipline.
