- Question
- Listed below is a discussion post from my classmate. I want you to agree and respond to the post. Please do not summarize the post. Find articles to support and agree with the post. I teach grades K-12th and I am a Health Physical Education Teacher, so make sure the topic can relate to our field of work. On page 149, teaching with technology is briefly touched on (Echevarría, J., Vogt, M., & Short, D. J., 2017, p. 149). I wanted to take it a step further with the following question. English language learners are continuing to grow in numbers and many ELL teachers are looking for new ways to meet the needs of their students. Furthermore, many of us know that the use of technology opens up a whole new world of possibilities. That being said, how can you incorporate technology into your classroom in order to meet the needs of English language learner students? Echevarría, J., Vogt, M., & Short, D. J. (2017). Answer
More students are enrolling on English language classes, and thus teachers are becoming overwhelmed or overstretched. Therefore, the need to use technology in teaching is something that most educational institutions must embrace (Murati and Ceka, 2017). Technology is efficient and can help teachers to reach a significant number of students at the same time. Besides, technology can help in improving student participation and research. Teachers can also take advantage of technology to enhance their lesson plans.
Accordingly, English language teachers should adopt e-learning, where students and teachers meet online without necessarily using a physical classroom. Such an idea would help the teachers to contain the growing number of students who cannot fit into one physical classroom (Murati and Ceka, 2017). The teachers can also send soft notes to students through email to reduce physical contacts, while such student can also send their assignment to the teachers using emails (Murati and Ceka, 2017). Technology thus improves communication between students and teachers even when they are in different localities or countries.
Students and teachers can also interact through zoom meetings. Accordingly, zoom meetings allow video teleconferencing amongst a group of people. This way, students from different countries and teachers can interact easily and efficiently outside the physical classroom (Murati and Ceka, 2017). Consequently, technology reduces the need for a physical classroom that might not be spacious enough to accommodate all the students and their growing numbers. Equally, the teacher can also encourage students to form WhatsApp groups where they can discuss various topics and exchange ideas and notes, thus improving their knowledge.
