Enhancing Personal Safety
In the contemporary world, considerable threat to personal safety abound. The following measures are therefore necessary to enhance my personal safety in both public and private spheres of life.
- Restricting access to my home
While approaching my home, I habitually scan the surroundings for intruders and unusual activity. While away, I lock doors and windows including on upper floors. For random visitors such as repair workers, police, and public utility staff, I note their identity, names, and purpose of visit.
- Safe use of gadgets on mobile networks
While on mobile networks, I do not, as a rule, share my personal information. For “wrong number” callers, I note the phone number the person they were attempting to reach. For threats through email and text message, I do not delete the messages. Instead, I note possible recurrence by maintaining up to date records of the time, date, and number of times the threats were made.
- Instituting safety measures while driving
Before driving off, I quickly scrutinize the immediate surroundings, including underneath the car for suspicious persons and objects. I also routinely scan the backseat of my car as I enter. Once in, I lock all the doors, roll up the windows, and keep phones, laptops and other valuables safely tucked away. Occasionally, when I suspect I am being followed, I drop at the nearest enforcement agencies for help. Additionally, I only park in well-lit areas.
- Care while using lifts
When taking lifts, I invariably stand close to the control panel for easy exit should the need arise. When alighting, I check for suspicious persons who may attempt to step out with me. I would rather let them out first then proceed to a different floor where I feel safe.
