Answer

Enuma Elish Worksheet

Genesis and Enuma Elish are two important creation narratives which explain how the earth was established.  Enuma Elish refers to a Babylon epic poem which describes the birth of gods, the beginning of cosmos, the creation of humanity, and the rise to dominance of god Marduk. On the other hand, Genesis refers to the first book of the Bible which deals with the creation of the universe as well as the patriarchs. According to Genesis, nothing existed before the earth and the prior heaven creation while Enuma Elish states that Mummu-Tiamat, Godfather Apsu, as well as Godmother of All Living, existed before the heavens and earth (Heath & Studebaker, 2015). In the same token, Genesis reveals that only one God created the earth while Enuma Elish states that two gods created the earth. Additionally, Genesis says that God created the earth. Also, God created light and saw that light was good; therefore, He separated darkness from light and created the sky. In contrary, Enuma Elish states that Marduk cut up the body of Tiamat from which he created the universe and separated the sky versus the sea.

According to the Genesis story, God is the sovereign of the universe, and He exists supremely above all. The two primary gods in Enuma Elish are the sole creators of the universe. The two stories elucidate that God/gods are omnipresent and are caring. According to the Genesis narrative, human beings were created to act as co-creators and fill the earth. God gave human beings a responsibility of taking care of the environment through protecting the living (Heath & Studebaker, 2015). On the other hand, Enuma Elish advocates that human being was created to serve the gods. Finally, the two creation accounts say that the worldview or cosmology of their audience is based on biblical interpretation of understanding the scripture.
