International politics of the last decade have been centered on the rapid growth of China in the realms of the military, technology, and the economy. The accelerated growth of China in those three areas has left international actors without a doubt that a great power is emerging, which will challenge the dominance of the West (Bräutigam and Xiaoyang, 2012, p.799). China is not only the most populous country but also the third-largest country regarding its geographical area. The country possesses most if not all the potentialities of a superpower. The rise of China will provide an alternative to the global dominance of the US. The continued growth of the economy of China has been coupled with a military buildup, which is a source of concern to the West. According to the theory of “China Threat,” it is not possible for China to have a peaceful rise and, therefore, poses a military threat to the west in the future (Brooks and Wohlforth, 2016, p.30). This paper will argue that China’s rise will largely destabilize the existing international system in the realms of economy, military, and technology.

China poses a significant threat to the West especially the US, as it will spark a major war to reshape the international system, which will reflect the new power reality.

Driven by various hegemonic ambitions as well as nationalist sediments, China will seek to replace the United States as the most dominant power globally.

The military modernization and increased military budget by China possess a significant threat to the US. Moreover, China’s economic growth will translate to military growth hence taking over the US as the world’s superpower. China will undoubtedly challenge and significantly destabilize the existing international order of the West.
