Answer
Ethical Issues in Criminal Justice
Moral conduct and ethics are of great significance in the field of Criminal Justice today. It is important to note that there would be little justice being served when the judiciary and the police force condone unscrupulous actions. According to Cole, Smith and DeJong (2015), it is expected that justice practitioners develop high moral characters so that the ordinary citizens may feel confident in the government agents, which provide them with protection. The importance of ethics and its awareness in the criminal justice sector is progressively increasing because the criminal justice professionals participate in some unethical behaviors, especially during their shifts. The practitioners usually end their respective professions in disgrace through their engagement in illegal activities including actions which are consummate illegal and those which have been identified as naturally criminal. Notably, some of the ethnic issues in criminal justice may include police brutality, corruption, as well as off-duty behavior.
Corruption has become a major ethical issue in Criminal Justice. The police do solicit or accept bribes in exchange for not reporting an organized illegal activity such as drugs or law violation. Outstandingly, the judges in the courts of law do not pass their judgments according to the court hearings; however, do so in favor of the person who has offered the largest bribe. As a result, citizens do not get justice and this leads to their frustrations as well as loss of confidence in the law courts (Braswell & McCarthy, 2014). It is also important to note that some do not present their cases in the courts due to lack of money, making it difficult for them to get justice. Also, police officers practice extortion via receiving or demanding payments for criminal felonies to overlook a likely future crime. I greatly feel that the courts should play great honesty in hearing and passing judgments among the people because it hurts when someone is jailed or set free when due process is erroneously followed.
In future, the unethical behaviors could be prevented through the formulation of strategies to mitigate the breaches (Braswell & McCarthy, 2014). Once one comprehends how the ethical issues are framed, it then becomes possible to formulate the policies that would eradicate or alleviate some of the immoral conducts. Similarly, qualified individuals should be hired to head the criminal justice departments so that case hearings and judgments can be performed with due process. Ethics training should also be conducted among the criminal justice officials. In this regard, ethics training should be done continuously throughout the staff members and officers' careers. This particular practice ought to be both formal and informal in that it should be presented in structured formats and settings like meetings respectively (Cole, Smith & DeJong, 2015). The professionals also need to develop analytical skills which would aid in critically examining the how, as well as what they do in the criminal justice system. Finally, the officers involved in acts such as corruption and brutality should highly be punished so that they can act as examples to others who may begin to conceive similar thoughts.
In conclusion, for the criminal justice field to be successful, the criminal justice system leaders have to communicate locally, think strategically, and act ethically when developing comprehensive and inclusive solutions to any given terrorism or crime. In order to eradicate the wrong issues faced by the majority of the public safety authorities, leadership has to be service-centered. Ethics is imperative and should never be violated by anybody holding a public office. In this line, the criminal justice officers need to develop a holistic perspective. A lot of formulation should be done in the criminal justice system so that everybody including the common people can get be treated justly.
