Involving families in a child education offers myriad of opportunities for academic success. Precisely, the environment of parents improves the motivation of the child, enhances their academic performance, attendance and increase positive behaviors. Due to these benefits, educators must do everything possible to enhance the involvement of parents, as well as, other members of the family in children education. To achieve this, there is need for a better and a well-designed roadmap that will guide such a process. Therefore, this paper develops a plan to involve families in the education of children.
Family involvement plays a critical role in the academic performance of learners. Essentially, it is a program that foster better rapport with families of the learners, members of the community, parents, as well as, other education stakeholders. This according to Evans (2013) enriches the students’ learning environment thereby improving their performance. The family involvement should be conducted during fundraising events, volunteering programs and parent-teacher conferences. During these events, parents and members of the community support the learners emotionally and physically and this positively enhances their success and wellbeing. Moreover, when families constantly engage themselves in the life of the students, they assist such learners to make better decisions during the learning process.
Every educator must strive to enhance to involve parents and other members of the family in the education of children. Moreover, parents of children within inclusive classroom need to create an effective relationship with administrators and teachers. This not only instills confidence but also improves learning and learners’ wellbeing. The plan for fostering family involvement and collaborative rapport between parents and staff entails;
Encouraging members of the family to visit the classroom and have a lengthy discussion with the learners within the classroom before the session starts. After that, the teachers should then interrogate the family members and establish the preferences, interest, likes, hobbies, as well as, dislikes of the learner. The parents should then be invited to come along with items including books, craft and toys among others that would relieve the stress that learners may be experiencing. Moreover, in inclusive classroom, parents should be informed of the need to paste family pictures that would make the learner to remember about her or his family and assist them be composed when stressed. At the same, the instructors need to seek views and suggestions from parents concerning games and activities for entertainment. Once all these activities have been fulfilled, teachers should further involve parents by solicitation them during field trips.
In conclusion, family involvement plays a critical role in improving class engagement and management. Different initiatives including providing volunteering services, creating mentorship programs, as well as involving parents in the progress reports have numerous influences in the classroom and engagement because they significantly affect the performance of learners.
