QUESTION
Health Information System Disc 2
Discussion2: Impact of Technology in Healthcare
The integration of technology into health care has afforded many benefits, but also has created many challenges. Health information has bridged gaps in access, communication, and patient outcomes. Oppositely, health information has shifted health care delivery to be non-traditional, created challenges with security of information, and adoption. The advancement of technology is rapid and being implemented into the health care sector as soon as developments are approved. While forward advancement is advantageous, it is important that health care leaders continuously monitor complications to ensure they do not negatively impact patient care and out weight the benefits to health care delivery.
For this discussion:
- Discuss how technology has influenced the evolution of the health care industry.
- Describe three advantages (benefits) of technology in health care and three disadvantages (challenges) of health care technology.
- As a leader of a health care organization, what are key some factors that should be considered when incorporating and implementing new technology into the facility?
Discussion Assignment Expectations

Use of Technology in Healthcare
- Discuss how technology has influenced the evolution of the health care industry.
Technology has initiated enormous and appreciated influence in the growth of the healthcare industry. One of the evolved areas is the diagnosis and treatment areas where technology has introduced apt diagnostic tools, enhanced the development of current and state of cutting-edge treatment, and minimized the invasive nature of their procedures (Mesko, 2018). Consequently, the pain felt is highly reduced and healing is made quicker. Technology also enables contact with specialists and treatment can be remotely targeted. Health records digitization, electronic health records, and bid data and cloud are also another evolution trait of healthcare from hardcopy files into a system integrated files that are accessible from any healthcare facility (Mesko, 2018). Mobile app technology also enables patients to access accurate and quick medical information, set reminders for medications, and track doctors’ appointments (Mesko, 2018).
- Describe three advantages (benefits) of technology in health care and three disadvantages (challenges) of health care technology.
Technology use in healthcare has improved the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery through recording real-time patient data for use in the treatment process. Specific software with the ability to classify diseases, their symptoms and possible causes through big data and cloud computing have also facilitated resourceful tracking, retrieval, and use of valuable information by researchers and medical professionals hence improving disease control and health care. The other advantage of technology in healthcare is that it facilitates increased and better accessibility to treatment through health IT (AIMS Education, 2019).
However, technology has also introduced negative impacts to health care. First, technology has created privacy and security concerns when it comes to the accessibility of client personal information by third parties. Technology is also very costly and requires complex expansion/maintenance procedures depending on facility needs. Information and communication technology also creates impersonal patient-doctor interactions which may be ineffective for some treatment procedures (AIMS Education, 2019).
- As a leader of a health care organization, what are key some factors that should be considered when incorporating and implementing new technology into the facility?
Technical factors that should be considered include the cost of installation and maintenance, interoperability, accessibility, and usability of the technology (AIMS Education, 2019). Organizational factors include the meaningful use of procured technology, the learning curve, change management and readiness, and communication and teamwork to ensure the technology achieves maximum acceptance. The level of assimilation of the technology into the healthcare industry should also be considered (Ross et al., 2016. The social factors of consideration are the attitudes towards the change, possible resistance, expectations, motivations and benefits of the technology, and the end-user considerations in its design (Ross et al., 2016).
