Electronic Health Records

The government through the public health section has allocated significant amounts of money to effect the transition from paper record keeping to electronic systems by the healthcare information managers. In so doing, there has been a slight change in health care record keeping at various centres. The facilities large bookshelves are now being transferred to archives; in their place, computers and other electronic recording equipment’s are being installed. However, the response is not as per the government’s expectation (Dixon, 2014).  This has prompted the issuance of financial payments to those who successfully transit from the paper to electronic record keeping.

What is surprising is that there is still no substantial change in the trend of adopting the use of the electronic system even with the incentives given as rewards. Probably, the government could adopt new approaches such as offering free training to healthcare information managers regarding the use of electronic systems, providing structural support to hospitals in setting up electronic network topologies, and subsidizing the cost of operating these electronic machines (Kraan, 2015). These factors will directly expose health care workers to electronic devices, thereby, encouraging and contributing to a swift transition.

Acute Care Records

The Health insurance portability and accountability act of 1996 is a law that protects patients with insurance cover when they lose jobs or change from one post to another.  HIPAA title requires the establishment of standards at the national level that governs the electronic health care transactions (Li, 2013). HIPAA title one is what affects patients most since it deals directly with their essential health benefits. It is a protective act to the patients, especially in limiting restrictions which group health plan put on benefits about pre-existing conditions. Moreover, the policy protects patients against the lack of benefits for not less than 12 months in the case of late enrolment (Jensen .P, Jensen, and Brunak, 2012).

The majority of patients feel that the HIPAA Act is a beneficial act that has proved to be very beneficial. Notably, they believe that the law takes into consideration their needs and bargains four their rights in their absence.
