Answer
Health Information Technology Systems
The influence of technology in the corporate world is vastly geared towards improvement of humanity and central in the spectrum is health. Aspects of technology like telemedicine have fast risen as matters of concern in the healthcare domain, and has constantly necessitated the need for progression of information systems for reinforcement. A strategic combination of IT inventions and information management processes forms a framework with great potential of improving the quality of health serviced delivery by improving information infrastructure (Mason et al., 2015). Practice management software (PMS) is the health information technology system that is discussed in this paper.
Practice management is ideally the ‘central nervous system’ of a healthcare unit, as it is the tool enabling the healthcare information cycle – from appointment scheduling, to patient information management, to billing, insurance, among other functions. The system is an imperative IT system in healthcare, as it enables coordination of other avenues like electronic medical record (EMR) software.
Among the advantages that come with a well-designed practice management software is the automation of practice activities such as coding, documentation, communication, billing, tracking payments and responsiveness claims, among others (Green Jr, et al., 2010). This kind of automation lifts hefty burden of the traditional information systems management that is cumbersome and time consuming, as further submitted by Green Jr, et al. (2010). The medical informatics tool also enables efficiency and accuracy through the process through the automation. This tool is especially helpful to practitioners in managing payment records as it enhances tracking of payment by third-party insurers.
In this organization facility, PMS has invariably enabled streamlining of workflow processes, improved productivity and efficiency as well as quality while reducing the timeline. An incident especially highlighted enhanced documentation while clearing record errors. There has been general improvement patient satisfaction, attributed to the improvement of quality of care delivery.
PMS is a holistic IT system that enables seamless automation of information management in healthcare.
