Answer
Hout, T., & Michael , D. (2014, September). A Chinese Approach to Management. Retrieved from hbr.org: https://hbr.org/2014/09/a-chinese-approach-to-management
Part one
The article by Hout and Michael (2014) extensively explores the common principles employed by Chinese managers. The article gave me a new perception concerning how organization s in China are managed. Worth noting is that there are a couple of lessons to learn from the management flaws adopted by Chinese organization leaders. While it is important to adopt case studies from successful management practices, it is equally vital for the ambitious business leaders to take into consideration the management flaws that can hamper organization performance. It is for this reason that I found the authors arguments to be captivating.
Hout and Michael (2014) interestingly criticize why ambitious leaders should not adopt the Chinese approach to management. Some of the reasons they give are that China is yet to harbor reputable and a world class organization such as Samsung, The Chinese private organizations are yet to pioneer radical approaches to management as adopted by Japanese organizations such Toyota (Hout & Michael , 2014). Chinese management systems are yet to achieve stability and it would be prudent to learn from organizations leaders that seek perfection and have immeasurable quest for value proposition.
Part two
As captivating as the article might be, I do not agree with certain ideas and facts as presented by the author of the article. Firstly, the benefits of experimentation approach towards management by having teenagers demonstrate their leadership capability before full employment supersedes the disadvantages. For instance, it assists business owners to be aware of the best person who can be entrusted with leadership jurisdiction as showcased by their leadership traits. Most organizations recruit managers based on their academic competence and a few years of experience. However, they disregard the fact that prowess demonstration of leadership skills, especially adaptation to handling disturbances is hugely influenced by the personal traits of an individual.
It is seemingly awkward for young managers to lead older employees. However, young managers are likely to welcome change with relative ease compared to older managers. Additionally, they know how to revitalize the energy and motivation of the employees whereas the older managers oftentimes consider the autocratic leadership in a bid to get things done. Furthermore, since young managers are willing to improve the state of the business, they are receptive to insights tailored to improve performance of the business.
Glenick, M., & Chen, G. (2018). How Autonomous Vehicles Will Change Industry And Strategy. Driving The Future.
Part One
Professor Chen and Glenick (2018) elaborately underpin the need to launch autonomous vehicles (AV) in transportation system. The article elaborated on the need to adopt AV technology through relentless contentious experiments. The most captivating thing concerning the author of this article is that they illustrate the both sides of the coin. As such, their perception regarding AV technology is not biased to advantageous side nor disadvantageous side (Glenick & Chen, 2018). This is to the effect that the authors brings out a comparison of the state of transport system when AV technology is used and when it is disregarded. However, a close scrutiny of the contextual semantics reveal that the authors are proponents of the adoption of the AV technology. Professor Chen would exclaim in disbelief at the positive results yielded by the adoption of AV technology in society. Furthermore, the authors illustrate the future of AV technology by bringing forth a feeling that the BMW AV vehicles ought to bring forth an exciting experience when the user alights from them compared with when they board them. Michael and Chen (2018), takes the reader of their article to a foreseeable future and makes them figure out how captivating it feels to adopt the idea of AV technology.
Part two
Regardless of how the authors of the articles push for the adoption of AV technology in a seemingly unbiased fashion, I felt that there were a couple of disadvantages of their ideology that they disregarded in a bid to mask the downsides of their ideology. For instance, a thorough scrutiny of the AV technology substantiates that besides the technology being exorbitantly expensive, it will cause many negative health effects to the users. The automation of AV vehicles may require the use of radiations to detect barriers. This is an issue that the two competent authors disregarded in a bid to persuasively argue the need to consider the technology in our transport system. While radiations can be purported to be used sparingly in a bid to facilitate a better lifestyle for humanity, an increased exposure to the radiations used for the control of self-driving cars will have negative health effects. The authors did not elaborate on the measures that would be undertaken to navigate such vehicles through heavy rains and storm which can reduce the effect of radiations to detect obstacles. By extensively elaborating on many advantages associated with the AV technology, it would be equally important to delve into how the engineers would grapple with the downsides of the technology so as to give a balanced perception.
Stiglitz, J. (2018). Trump and Globalization. Journal of Policy Modelling.
Part one
The journal extensively covers the ambitious promises that president Trump made before his entry to the office and further examines his performance index in regards to the standards he set. The most interesting aspect of this journal is that it delves into an issue that is of great interest to the American economy and reconnoiters the applicability of the strategies in place to grapple with the issue. Against this backdrop, the author felt that America is facing a plethora of issues and it would be wiser to delve into the gist of the matter. It is for this reason, I perceive that the author resolved to embark on an issue that is a core pillar to the economy of the country (Stiglitz, 2018). It is interesting to note that the author expresses that the incumbent president is steering the country in the wrong direction, hence crippling the economic status of the country. Interwoven in the journal are mild critiques that ridicules the botched strategies that the incumbent president ignorantly implements in a bid to rescue the economic situation. This is a piece of work that elaborates on the rising tension between the United States and other countries such as China. It is for this reason that the American economy is suffering the backlash of their president’s implementation of the unfeasible trade strategies.
Part two
This journal was informative on the far reaching impact of the trade wars that the incumbent American president had imposed. However, this journal would be more elaborate on the 2018 trending issues by underpinning the reasons for the rising tension between China and America. Some of the news making headlines in most of the American media shed light on the efforts made by President Donald Trump to negotiate with the Chinese president Xi on matters pertaining Trade. The author would have effectively ridiculed the unfeasible trade strategies implemented by illustrating their backlash. However, the author illustrate the effect of the backlash on Americans. The journal would have rather been more appealing if it showcased the likelihood of President Trump orchestrating various measures to reinstate the amended trade negotiations agreements. This would have been more effective in demonstrating his incompetence and his need to seek further consultation from experts in governance of the economic status of the country. Furthermore, his journal would be more realistic as it would have foreseen the current status of trade agreement between China and America, hence attaining some sense of credibility.
