Various studies have now been done to establish how TB vaccine may be used in the fight against COVID-19. In one of the recent studies done by researchers from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute, a positive correlations was established between the use of BCG vaccine and a reduction in the morality rates arising from COVID-19. Although the results of such a study are certainly groundbreaking, they do not establish causality. As such, I feel that more clinal trials are required to establish the safety and effect of BCG vaccine on severe cases of COVID-19.

- There has been more researches done to support the idea of tuberculosis vaccine Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) being used as a potential treatment for COVID-19.
- In countries where BCG was used, it was established that many people experienced less mortality from coronavirus compared to countries that did not use the vaccine (Mascarenhas, 2020).
- The implications of such a findings is that BCG has the probability of reducing the risk of severe symptoms from COVID-19 infections.
- The findings of the recent study done reinforces the point that BCG has the ability to improve the immunity of individuals and even against COVID-19.
- In a study conducted by Luis Escobar and his colleagues from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute, it was found that there was a strong correlation between DCG vaccination and lowered mortality rates from COVID-19 (Mascarenhas, 2020).
- If BCG vaccination increased by 10%, there was also found to be a 10% decrease in the mortality rates from COVID-19 (Mascarenhas, 2020).
- It is my feeling that; despite the remarkable nature of the study, it should not be taken as conclusive because it does not provide sufficient evidence to establish causality.
- I feel that more clinical trials are needed to establish the effects of the BCG vaccine on severe impacts of the novel coronavirus.
