Answer
Documentary Summary
Human and acquired immunodeficiency virus infection immune deficiency syndrome (HIV &AIDS) hope documentary by zimvisionmedia uploaded on June 22, 2012 is a film about people living with HIV/AIDS in both Zimbabwe and England. Basically, it represents individuals living with the disease in both developing and developed countries. According to the documentary, there has been a reducing prevalence in both countries as a result of not only antiretrovirals (ARVs), abut also awareness that has made people to have safe sex. As at the time when the documentary was taken, approximately less than 10 percent of Zimbabwe population were living or carrying the virus. This is about 100% reduction as compared to a decade ago. According to the documentary, while ARVs are available in both developing and developed countries, drug compliance in sub-Saharan countries is still a challenge as some of the patients either skip or do not see the importance of taking the drugs every day.
Based on the information provided in the documentary, HIV/AIDS threatens the developing countries more than the developed countries. This is because in developed countries such as England, there are effective health facilities to deal with the symptoms of the disease. On the same note, developing countries cannot afford ARVS without the assistance of the health organizations and developed countries.
Another issue that has come clearly in the documentary is socioeconomic status of developed and developing countries. The disease is likely to kill several people in poor countries because such states cannot only afford the drugs, but have poor diet, which is among the most important coping measure of the disease. On the same note, poor countries are vulnerable to other several diseases such as tuberculosis that further weaken immunity, hence the body cannot effectively fight the virus. Such diseases, therefore, interfere with treatment and prevention of the disease.
