Impact of Human Service Professionals
I work as a school social worker at Lake Trafford Elementary school in Immokalee, Florida, working with kids in the Head Start Program (HSP). HSP is a federal program that fosters children’s school readiness from birth to age five from low-income families, homeless, or house-sharing by improving their emotional, cognitive, and social growth. My most significant impact is working with the kids, parents, and the school in helping the kids in HSP in their developmental needs and relevant social interaction skills. The age group’s developmental needsare learning the fundamentals of writing and reading. It set their foundation in building more comprehension in Kindergarten since they concentrate on the following grade’s enthusiasm; reading and writing are crucial (Cook & Coley, 2019). likewise,since kids in this age group are studying how to interconnect with their classmates who are their classmates, I help develop positive behavioral intervention approaches to build their language and social skills.
The risk factors I would concentrate on are alleviating family stress to enable the kid to operate more effectively in school because these kids are either from homeless or low-income families. The resiliency factors I would concentrate on are the school’s support to provide the necessary resources to enable the kids to study effectively and the kid’s determination, irrespective of their background, to engage in the HSP for their academic success (Becker et al., 2017). my excitement about working with these children is that I can liaise with the school, parents, and the kid to build an educational foundation for the children. Also, I like that this program offers parents a chance to engage in their kids’ education by participating in the school’s monthly meetings. also, the program provides training to parents on the policies and procedures that would permit them in becoming part of the program and contribute to the crucial decisions concerning their kids’ education.
