Implementation of Wind Renewable Energy

The whole world is battling climate change which is substantially attributed to the continued large scale use of fossil fuels. Renewable energy has been fronted as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. Wind energy offers one of the most sustainable alternatives to fossil fuel and thus a reliable tool to the reduction of carbon foot print.

Wind energy is formed from kinetic energy generated flow of wind due to integration of solar energy, variation in the earth’s surface and rotation of the earth. Variation of pressure on large water bodies, mountains and vegetation equally influence the flow of wind. Wind in itself is caused by uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun, variations on the earth’s surface and the rotation of the earth. The wind energy is converted to mechanical energy and electrical energy through turbines which rotate propeller blades around a rotor. The rotor in turn runs the drive shaft which turns an electric generator which then generates electricity from the mechanical force from the drive shaft. The amount of electricity produced is a function of the speed and the density of the air as well as the engineering characteristics of the turbines. Once the turbines are installed, very little maintenance is required. Wind energy is one of the most sustainable renewable sources of energy because it is one of the cheapest renewable energies. Countries like US, China, Germany, Spain, and India are among the top producers of wind energy. China for instance produced 114, 600 MW of wind energy by end of 2014.

There is no doubt; wind energy presents one of the best energy technologies for the future. As the world focuses on war on climate change, the best arsenal lies with sustainable and affordable alternatives and wind energy is indispensable.
