This paper discusses how American colonists attempted to mimic British society during the 18th century. Besides the political system, there are various elements that the American colonists tried to imitate in the British Society, including culture, dressing, and even the structure of the house.
American colonists tried to mimic the British society by importing their products, embracing British fashion and elegance, modeling their seaports like those in Britain, and constructing big English-style houses. Research indicates that during the 18th century, American colonists were becoming more culturally similar to the British society. This process is often described as Anglicization (Holdsworth, 2018). During this era, the colonists enhanced their economies and became a significant market for British manufacturing exports. Colonists with disposable revenue and admittance to British businesses strived to imitate the British society. During the mid-18th century, middle-class American colonists could afford products previously considered luxuries, including British fashions and dining wares. The American colonists' education and culture were originally British cultures (Hattem, 2017). The colonists spoke the same language, read the same books, ate similar food, and had identical world perspectives with the British. Although they differed religiously, cultural and social priorities were significantly consistent with the British.
