Answer

Organizational Change and Culture

Background of the Company and its Culture

Nissan Motor Company is a Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer whose headquarters is in Nishi-Ku, Yokohama in Japan. The company was founded in 1933 and was considered one of the best automobile companies in the world. The Nissan motor company joined an alliance with other automakers such as French automaker and Renault to create a unique business model with the aim of effective greater competition than its competitors. The company has also come up with a green initiative whereby the company produces electric automotive with zero-emission. With this initiative, the company has been rated as one of the best-selling electric cars globally. The employees’ accomplishments drive Nissan’s culture as the company gets its pride from its unrelenting commitment to diversify and provide a wide array of an exciting lineup of vehicles. The company is driven by motivation and teamwork, and the willingness to do whatever it takes to attain its objectives.

Problem to be Addressed and its importance.

There is a need for change in Nissan Motor company regarding the affordability of the cars it manufactures. The company has concentrated on high-end manufacturing cars that meet a more significant percentage of the high class and a few middle classes. Hence, the company has been losing a lot of money to other motor vehicle companies that invest in meeting everyone’s ability to purchase a car irrespective of class. Therefore, the rationale for the change in the Nissan motto company is to manufacture affordable cars for anyone irrespective of their class. This change strategy will be of high importance as it is directed to impact the marketing of Nissan cars directly, hence increasing its total revenue.

Furthermore, this rationale for change will enable the company to capture more customers, thereby expanding its market base. Hussein et al. (2018) argue that change is critical in any organization with high levels of competitive business environments. Changing their manufacturing model to meet everyone’s ability to purchase cars will enable the company to venture into new market niches and provide a competitive advantage over other motor companies as the company will be able to meet everyone’s needs regardless of class difference.

Change Initiatives

For Nissan motor company to exercise change, there are some factors that the company has to consider before implementing the change. Some of the critical issues to be considered before effecting change include; creating a climate of change, engaging and enabling the whole organization, and sustaining and implementing change.

According to Kotter’s eight-stage framework, the first stage is the creation of a sense of urgency. Developing a sense of urgency within the company will help initiate a sense of motivation to start moving on (Carman et al., 2019). Creating a sense of urgency can be done by showing sales statistics and comparing them with Nissan’s competitors who manufacture cars irrespective of class. Carrying out dialogues on market trends and developing scenarios of what is likely to happen in the future and the opportunities that the company is likely to benefit from the change, enabling the company to manufacture cars that are affordable to all.

The creation of a guiding coalition is the second stage. A guiding coalition provides a mechanism of convincing people of the necessity for change. The guiding coalition is achieved through seeking support from strong leaders and key people within the company. For the change to be realized, it has to be accepted by a more significant percentage of the company. Higher acceptance is achieved through using a team of influential people within the organization. Such influential people will continue building the urgency of the change and provide momentum for it (has et al., 2020).

The third step is creating a change vision and strategies. Before the idea of change is brought to effect, there are so many ideas that are being considered. Such ideas are linked to an overall vision to grasp the ideas quickly (Bhatt, 2017). Visions of change include values that are primary to the change, future prediction of the company, and change execution strategies.

The fourth step is the communication of the change. After creating the vision and strategies, communication of the change should be done more frequently and be delivered powerfully. Communication of the change can be done through special meetings within the company, talking about the change daily, and embed it while making decisions; this will help keep it fresh in everyone’s mind (Carman et al., 2019). This will enable the people to remember it and respond to change appropriately.

Empowering employees to take action for the change is the fifth step, and it is done by tactfully removing obstacles that might inhibit the progress of the change. Removal of obstacles provides a basis for empowering people to execute the change (Bhatt, 2017). Empowering employees to take action for the change can be done by recognizing and rewarding employees who try to make the change happen and help employees who are resisting the change by helping them see the benefits and reasons for the change.

The sixth step is the creation of short-term wins. Small et al. (2016) states that it motivates employees more than anything.  Short-term wins are achieved by looking for sure-fire projects that are easy to implement and attract little or no critics for the change, not coming up with early targets that are expensive and rewarding to meet the targets.

Change Vision Video

What is the Change?

The change in Nissan motor company is to manufacture cars that are easily afforded to all people irrespective of their classes.

The Importance of the Change

Nissan motor company manufacturing cars that are affordable to all will enable the company to increase its total revenue. Manufacturing cars that are affordable to all means that the company will be reaching more customers hence increasing sales margin.

Furthermore, manufacturing cars that are affordable to all people irrespective of class will enable the Nissan company to penetrate many untapped market niches, increasing its market share and profit margins. Manufacturing cars that are affordable to all people will increase the number of manufactured cars, and an increase in profit and sales margin will increase employees’ allowance; hence, both consumers and employees benefit from this change.

Moreover, the change will enable the company to fully establish itself in the market as it will achieve everyone’s satisfaction and their dreams foe owning a car hence, the pride. The success that will be brought about by this change will be seen through the steady growth of the company by venturing more headquarters and branches, increased profit margins will also help us to determine how success will look like once the change is realized and increased reputation of the company.
