International Organizations Making a Difference
The ongoing focus on countries, non-government organizations (NGOs), and international organizations or groups on poverty alleviation and assisting the needy has created a clearer attitude of possible routes of eliminating poverty and ensuring that life quality of all individuals is improved. One of the nongovernmental organizations that have been instrumental in assisting the needy is Samaritan's Purse. This is an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid organization which assists in several capacities a primary part of its Christian missionary duty.
Founded in 1970 by the Baptist pastor Robert Pierce commonly known as Bob, the organization has made several trips in different parts of the world such Asia and Africa to provide relief not only to individuals but also to certain program that have been initiated in such areas to elevate and improve the life of people. Some of the main programs of the organization include disaster relief and world medical mission. The organization responds to disaster or emergency situation by providing recourses to curb such problems. Other programs include children heart project and turn on the tap.
While this organization does several activities that are aimed to improve the livelihood of individuals, especially the poor ones, an area of my interest is turn on the tap. This is an initiative or campaign that aims at providing safe drinking water in developing countries. It saddens that while these developing countries have enough water, the water is not safe for consumption, a factor which presents them with several diseases. Personally, I have engaged in such campaigns and I have insight on the number individuals, particularly children who are losing their lives as a result of inability to get clean drinking water.
