A Class Divided Video Paper Instructions
After watching ALL of the Videos: A Class Divided on the PBS website; the short UK update on the study in the second clip; and the Jimmy Fallon show clip.
I then want you to attach a double-spaced, 3+ page paper (3 full page minimum) (essay format- which means introduction, body and conclusion), typed using 10-12 point font size, (do not copy and paste it into the box below, please attach it as a formal Word document) that addresses the following issues:
• Briefly recap the experiment/s and videos.
• Why do you feel this experiment worked so well with the children (and the lesson was still carried with them as adults)? What specific factors can you identify that led to the success of the project?
• If this experiment were to be conducted with children today, would it need to be altered? If so, how? If not, why? Name specific factors.
• This experiment was conducted in rural Iowa. How does growing up in urban vs. rural communities, in your opinion, impact the way we learn to communicate interpersonally and interculturally with others who are different (culturally in some way) than you? What experiences have you or people you know had with this, if any?
• How does your reaction change when adults are subjected to this experiment? What is your reaction to the experiment with adults in the the UK and the prison employees from the first video? Be sure to mention and correlate all videos thoroughly, taking specific examples from each video.
• Relate this documentary to at least 5 specific ideas, models or terms from the textbook, IN PARTICULARE CHAPTER 5, being sure to identify, define, and correlate back to the videos.
• Anything else that you want to add, such as your own experiences with systematic racism, cultural issues, current issues, etc?
Since this task is more extensive than others so far and must be submitted as an actual paper, it is worth 40 points.
