Answer

The Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma Inter-Club Members Exchange Plan

Introduction

The Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma is a social welfare program that focuses on the provision of a safe and positive environment for the county’s youth to spend their out-of-school time (GuideStar, 2020). Since this club is part of a national organization dubbed the Boys and Girls Club of America, the most convenient intervention plan with respect to social and personal development is inter-club members exchange.

Inter-Club Members Exchange Plan

It suffices to highlight that the Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma County utilizes a wide range of resources and activities, including, character development, career development, arts, fitness, sports, recreation, and health/life skills to enhance young people’s capacity to reach their full potential as responsible, caring, and productive citizens (GuideStar, 2020). Inasmuch as all of the organizations in the national Boys and Girls Club focus on developing the American youth, each club offers a unique experience in terms of its practices and member profiles (VCU, n.d). An inter-club members’ exchange plan will allow members of the Oklahoma County’s Boys and Girls Club to interact with and learn from fellow youth from different clubs across the United States.

Cultural Diversity

Traditionally, exchange programs have been used in tertiary education institutions such as colleges and universities to ensure that learners get to interact with fellow students from different backgrounds (Waterval, et al., 2017). A similar approach will be applied to ensure that members from the Oklahoma club visit clubs from different regions so they can participate in developmental environments where cultures differ from theirs. A similar experience is also bound to be experienced by club members who are visited by boys and girls from other clubs. For example, a young member from Oklahoma will be exposed to different people when he/she is transferred to an urban club such as the New York Boys and Girls Club.

Intervention Outcomes

A key advantage of the proposed intervention plan is its practicality and ease of measurement with regards to success. Since exposure to a different environment allows a member to understand how to function in a socio-culturally diverse setting, success will be best measured by calculating the number of boys and girls who have been transferred to other clubs for a predetermined period (Waterval, et al., 2017). The Oklahoma Boys and Girls Club will consider it a success if at least 60-70 percent of its members have participated in the exchange program. Also noteworthy is the fact that members from other Boys and Girls Clubs in the US will be coming to Oklahoma. Such a scenario implies that even those who remain will still have the chance to interact with young people from different backgrounds.

Evidence-Based Practice

As far as evidence-based practice is concerned, the popularity of exchange programs in academic institutions serves as proof of the value of this intervention (Waterval, et al., 2017). Members of Oklahoma’s Boys and Girls Club will be expected to prepare reports of their experiences during the exchange process so that administrators can gauge its success. First-person accounts of how members benefit from interacting with youth from diverse backgrounds will offer clear indication on whether they will gain from the same.

Risk and Resiliency

Young members under the age of 10 will be exposed to certain risks including bullying, illness, and molestation. Some of the key risk-factors to consider prior to sending any member would include age, health status (physical and psychological), and demeanor (extroversion vs. introversion). It is obvious that high-risk members can be easily identified based on the mentioned variables. The most appropriate way of avoiding these scenarios is routine check-up of members transferred to other clubs. Perhaps, daily calls will allow administrators to keep tabs on the positive and negative experiences their members go through when sent to other institutions.
