Class consciousness refers to the set of beliefs that individuals hold regarding their social class or economic rank within the society, their class interest, and the structure of their class. In its simple understanding, it is the self-understanding of members of a particular class. Class consciousness is an example of symbolic interactionism because it also focuses on the relationship among individuals within the society. For example, for one to interact with another person, they have to understand each other, a concept that is significant in class consciousness.
Question 2
Social reproduction is defined as the processes which ensures self-perpetuations of a social structure over time to biological reproduction for a population. In its simple understanding, it is defined as the reproduction of social inequalities such as education throughout generations. For example, in the United States, there are several cases of school dropout among the minorities such as Hispanics due to lack of capital to continue their education. The capital issue is rarely seen in higher classes making cases of dropout very minimal. Cultural capital, which includes non-economic resources that enable social mobility, highly contributes to social reproduction. For example, lack knowledge and education among Hispanic minorities lead to continuous poverty since they cannot compete in the job market.
Question 3
The culture of poverty is a perception in social theory which affirms that the values of individuals who experience poverty has significant role in continuing their poor condition, which continues the cycle of poverty through several generations. Several people are against this notion since it tries to argue that the poor are likely to remain poor throughout their lives.
