Sample of your initial discussion board response as an annotated question:
Chapter one of the text talks about the integrative model of organizational behavior and the five different topics –Individual Outcomes, Individual Mechanisms, Individual Characteristics, Group Mechanisms, and Organizational Mechanisms. Under individual outcomes It highlights (1. A quote from the learning material;)“the two primary outcomes of interest to organizational behavior research (and employees and organizations): job performance and organizational commitment (Colquitt, LePine, & Wesson, 2019, p. 7)”. It goes on to give the employee example as wanting to do well and maintain employment, and the manager/organization example as wanting to maximize job performance and ensure long-term retention.
(2. Your own insights;) I believe organizational culture is the difference between employees and organizations who can achieve the two primary goals versus those falling short. I have worked for companies with both positive and negative organizational cultures and seen firsthand the impact of each. In companies where the organizational culture was employee focused with transparent messaging, honest timely communications and clearly defined goals, the culture was generally positive. However, in companies where the focus was exclusively on the customer, with ambiguous messaging, inconsistent communications and vague goals, the culture was often negative.
The textbook defines organizational culture as “the shared social knowledge within an organization regarding the rules, norms and values that shape the attitudes and behaviors of its employees (Colquitt, LePine, & Wesson, 2019, p. 560)”. Companies like Ikea and others listed on the Fortune 100 Best Places to Work list highlight organizational culture as a key driver in both employee performance and organizational commitment. (3. A follow-up question(s);)Do you believe organizational culture contributes to employee job performance and organizational commitment? Have you worked in an environment where the organizational culture impacted your job performance and organizational commitment? What are some past or current work experiences you attribute to the organizational culture you experienced either positive or negative?

Answer
Job Satisfaction
Chapter 4 of the book provides an overview of the concept of job satisfaction. Specifically, the chapter addresses the aspect of values and how they affect job satisfaction. Additionally, the parameters for the evaluation of job satisfaction are discussed as well as the effects that day-to-day events have on the concept. The effect of job satisfaction on performance and organizational commitment are key elements of this chapter. Job satisfaction is defined as “a pleasurable emotional state resulting from the appraisal of one’s job or job experiences” (Colquitt et al. 93). The rates of job satisfaction for the Americans is then presented in the form of percentages. My own insight is that job satisfaction is a vital aspect in ensuring not only an improved job performance for the employees abut also their commitment to the organization. I always think that organizations should take all available measures to ensure that their employees are satisfied in their jobs because it is only by doing so that they will realize increase productivity and profitability in the long run. For instance, the chapter in the book states that “job satisfaction is strongly related to life satisfaction, or the degree to which employees feel a sense of happiness with their lives”( Colquitt et al. 108). As such, addressing all these aspects is vital to ensuring the satisfaction of the workers and better performances. Companies should not assume that job-related stressors are the only aspects that affect job satisfaction, they should wholesomely address all aspects. With this I mind, do you believe that employee moods have a significant effect on job satisfaction? Should companies address the life stressors of their employees so that they can ensure increased job satisfaction and better job performance?
