Journal on Grant Funding for Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD)

The Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) is one of the largest organizations that advocate for federal public policies that empower and ensure self-determination, integration, independence and inclusion of people with disabilities. Its serves children, youths and adults with a range of disabilities including mental and physical disabilities (Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), 2019). This human services program was established in 1973 and is currently based in Washington, DC.

The identified grant is sponsored by the United Nations Voluntary Fund on Disability. This grant will be beneficial to the CCD human services program in a number of ways. First, it is important to acknowledge that the grant program by the United Nations (UN) was established to support persons with disabilities (UN, 2019). The funds are intended to support innovative programs seeking to improve the lives of persons with a range of disabilities. I believe that getting this fund will benefit the CCD program by financing researches on policy issues and collecting public opinion on policy recommendations to be forwarded to the federal agency in charge of disability programs. Secondly, the grant will finance educational programs aimed at creating awareness on types of disabilities. Grass root campaigns to enlighten people on disabilities will reduce the stigma associated with disabilities while calling upon the communities to support such persons (CCD, 2019). Thirdly, the grant will finance the purchase of equipment to foster independence and productivity of persons living with disabilities.

My insight is that the USA has a lot of grant programs to support human services programs. Human service administrators need to conduct research and identify the most suitable grant programs to apply (Patti, 2008). In addition, they could apply for many of the grants to increase their chances of being considered.
