Convince your local public library to offer self-serve kiosks so patrons can check their materials in and out.
1. Write a proposal of not more than 650 words that evaluates the operational, technical, and economic feasibility of these kiosks.
2. Draw use-case diagrams that illustrate how a patron would interact with the kiosk. These diagrams should illustrate all of the interactions in enough detail to derive functional requirements for the kiosk.
Assume that all materials and library cards carry a unique bar code.
The patron should have the option to receive a receipt for items checked in or out.
3. Write sample instructions on how to use the kiosk. The library intends to post these instructions on a sign next to the kiosk, so they must be short (not more than 350 words), clear, complete, and well organized.

Introduction
Kiosks are small, enclosed stands from which various merchandise are sold. They are often placed in common areas within shopping malls, playgrounds, or any other public concourse. Regarding the public library, putting kiosks at strategic points within the library and in the community will enhance patrons' experiences as it increases convenience. Therefore, this proposal details the ideal approach in developing self-service kiosks for the public library. The primary goal is to create high-efficiency self-service kiosks for the community library. The approach will help enhance convenience for patrons who will not have to go and queue in the local library to check-in or out their materials. Moreover, traveling distance will be reduced as most patrons can pick or deliver materials in kiosks in the public concourse away from the library's physical location.
Evaluation of the Kiosk's Operational Feasibility
The operational feasibility of the kiosks considers their significance and how well they will be utilized. Ideally, it will depend on other factors, comprising location, design, and awareness. In this regard, the kiosks have to be placed in the right area that can be accessed by the public with ease while also ensuring that it is safe and convenient for the local library management to monitor the activities remotely. The design will make the kiosks operational, depending on the ease with which the patrons can use them. If it is challenging to use, the kiosks' operational feasibility may be low. Lastly, awareness focuses on how well the patrons will know about the existence of the self-service kiosks. If they are not aware, then the operational relevancy of the projects will be low.
Evaluation of the Kiosk's Technical Feasibility
Technical feasibility focuses on the technicalities that will be involved in making the kiosks self-service. Notably, the feasibility will be enhanced by ensuring that all the devices comprising computers, sensors, and scanners function correctly as desired. Moreover, it will be imperative to protect them from destruction and theft, especially for those not located within the library. Lastly, it will be imputative for the library to hire competent IT professionals to manage all the technical devices as they can require upgrades and regular updates.
Evaluation of the Kiosk's Economic Feasibility
The provision of self-service kiosks may not be feasible from an economic standpoint. Ideally, most avid readers know the library where they seek various services that may not be available at self-service kiosks (Ramgir, 2019). Therefore, the kiosks may not help to bring in more patrons who create revenue for the library. Moreover, the expenses involved in developing and maintaining the self-survive kiosks represent a significant increase in marginal operational costs for the local library. Therefore, revenue will reduce. Based on these considerations, the self-service kiosks are not economically feasible.

Justification and Explanation of the Use Case Diagram
Biometric scanners will be ideal in identifying customers. A patron will have to put their hands on the scanner for identification. After identification, the scanner will give the patron access to the kiosk. Inside the kiosk, a computer will be fitted on the wall from which the patrons can enter the title of the book they want, request it and then have the system automatically release the book through a provided opening. Sensors will be used to determine if the client has picked the book or not. In checking books in or out, the patrons will have their library cards scanned and the barcodes on the books to link the details to the user's account.
Sample Instructions about How to Use the Kiosk
To enter the kiosk, one will have to press the open bottom on the doorknob. After pressing, a biometric scanner will extrude from the wall. The client will then put his left hand on the scanner. The scanner will automatically identify the user and prompt the door to open. The client will then enter the kiosk. Inside, the patron will head to the computer on the wall, which has a barcode reader. Patrons will then hold their cards on the barcode reader to scan the library card and read the code. Upon reading, the barcode reader will prompt the computer monitor to display details of the client. At this point, if one is checking in a book, he should hold it over the barcode reader for scanning, which will allow the computer to identify the book then display two options of Return or Extend deadline. A patron will then click on the right choice based on what he or she intends to do.
If a patron is checking out a book, he or she will type in the search box once they have been logged in to the kiosk's computer after scanning the library card's barcode. The search will return the book title, which the patron will select. After selecting, the kiosk's computer will prompt the click on whether he wants to check the book out or add to the reading list. If one clicks on check out, the computer will prompt a mechanical system to eject the book through the opening under the barcode scanner. Once out, the patron will again hold the book over the barcode reader for scanning. The reader will enable the computer to identify the book and place it in the user's tray. Once done, the client will be needed to hold the card over the barcode reader, which will confirm all the actions and log the user out. The client can then pull, open the door and leave. The door will auto-lock itself.
Conclusion
The development of kiosks needs to adopt a project implementation strategy. In this regard, it will begin by planning, implementation, and completion. Conception has already occurred by the virtue that it is already a suggestion. Planning for the development of kiosks within the local community will involve determining the requirements to develop the kiosk, the location, and the personnel to execute. The second set of activities will focus on identifying the needs and then sourcing for them. Notably, financial resources will have to be sought in advance. Ideally, the library will have to set aside a specific amount of finances to cater for the kiosks' development. The third practice will be identifying the contractor who will implement the project. Notably, this will be individuals with experience in executing similar projects. Execution of the project will involve building the kiosks in selected locations. The contractors will be offered the necessary finances and other resources to begin the construction process. Moreover, the implementation phase will involve equipping the library with all the essential technological devices to ensure that patrons can serve themselves appropriately.
