Answer
Leadership
Explain how culture can affect perceptions of team members in a group
Culture has a significant effect on the perception of team members in any kind of group. To start with, individuals from the minority culture may find it difficult to trust the members of the dominant cultures (Vandaveer, 2012). Notably, in this particular scenario, their perceptions may be guided by their previous experiences that were not noble or good. As result, the minority culture may perceive some members of the team as untrustworthy on the basis of their personal experiences. Moreover, cultural difference lead to personality and behavior differences such as norms, manners, communication, thinking, body language, which result in miscommunication among the team members.
Discuss strategies for working with leaders or team members who originate from a different culture than you.
The first strategy for working with leaders or team members who originate from a different culture includes creation of an open environment which leaves egos and ranks at the door so that everybody can have an equal opinion and voice (Vandaveer, 2012). Secondly, it is important to provide a well-defined virtual space for the team, for example, shared collaboration platform to help in ensuring that the team members are in the loop. Thirdly, it is vital to create a team charter which would serve to clarify expectations and performance.
Expound on the significance of using the best type of verbiage to communicate with other members of a team in order to prove successful in task completion.
Using the best type of verbiage to communicate plays a great role in helping foster good working relationships amongst the team members with different cultural backgrounds (Vandaveer, 2012). It turns out to improve efficiency and morale thus leading to greater productivity. Effective communication similarly enables members of a team to understand their responsibilities and the duties of everybody else on the team; and ensures there is no acrimony in the group.
Share the benefits of connecting with humor to build team camaraderie.
Humor plays a great role in building team relationships. Research shows that humor boosts creativity, improves a team’s morale, and reduces boredom and turnover. It also fosters trust and is a significant icebreaker in appropriate scenarios and can tear down walls amongst team members (Vandaveer, 2012). It can be used to solve various problems or conflicts that may occur between the team members. Studies show that humor can essentially increase effective communication, therefore, ensuring cooperation among the team members.
Explain how personality traits, social factors, and styles of leadership can affect the competence and loyalty of a team member.
The personality-based communication style of team members can repeatedly determine the failure or success of a team. Leaders’ personalities control their attitudes, influence their behavior, and affects the way their perception of different things. Social factors such as education levels can make one to act professionally when in leadership while poor education levels can make people to have poor reasoning, leading to conflicts among team members. On the other hand, leadership styles such as democratic form of leadership brings people together and encourages collaboration as everyone’s views and opinions are taken into account before arriving at a decision.
Determine the different career options an employee might consider when having trouble working with a cohort or leader of a department.
In case of trouble working with a cohort or leader of a department, it would be important rotate the employees (Vandaveer, 2012), for example, change departments so that they can have a new working environment.
