Leadership in nursing requires the leaders to value others, self-confidence, and effective building of teams. However, there exists leadership vulnerability in nursing that determines the effectiveness of nursing leaders. Leadership vulnerability is being open to criticism and suggestion. A leader should acknowledge that he or she is not an expert in everything (Näsman, 2018). Thus, nursing leaders should feel comfortable to lean on team members to fill gaps existing in service delivery. Leadership vulnerability in nursing defines a leader's effectiveness since it involves the willingness to speak up, the courage to trust, earn trust, and the resilience to keep trying after failure.

Resilience to keep trying after failure is an essential vulnerability in nursing leadership (Näsman, 2018). No leader is perfect.
