Long-Term Implication of the Increasing Dependence on Constant and Immediate Interconnectedness
Interconnectedness, as used in this article is the state of being connected for people in different places all over the world. According to Cai, Eidam, Saunders & Steffen (2018), interconnectedness fosters the development of people into becoming civil leaders, informed citizens and successful professional in diverse and global society. Dependence on interconnectedness is both beneficial and problematic since it offers a number of benefits and some issue arise due to its long-term dependence. Some of the benefits of interconnectedness are readily available markets and audience and faster information and knowledge sharing. The main three implications that are likely to arise from a long-term dependency of interconnectedness are frauds, crimes and privacy breaching. Since interconnectedness involves people from different parts of the world who might have not met physically, frauds, cybercrimes and privacy breach is likely to affect them. A cybercrime is a form of crime involving a network or computer in which the computer may be used to commit a crime of threatening, damaging or stealing from a person or company (Yar & Steinmetz, 2019). Long-term interdependence on interconnectedness is likely to result to an increase in cybercrime and this calls for strong cybersecurity measures to be put in place to help solve this issue. Internet fraud is also another implication of long-term dependence on interconnectedness and it involves tricking victims for purposes of stealing their properties, inheritance and money. Lastly, privacy breaching is likely to result from long-term dependence on interconnectedness. Global connectedness is likely to cause privacy breaches since people can share details on their personal life to people all over the world. Strong security measures need to be put in place to help mitigate these issues that are likely to result from long-term dependence on interconnectedness.
