Increasing dependence on constant and immediate interconnectedness has far reaching long-terms implications in nursing practice. The rationale for choosing this topic is the recognition that nursing practice is characterized by maintenance of various values such as responsibility, compassion, deriving of greater meaning in experiences, and holism that are based on the concept of interconnectedness. Regardless of the worldly barriers of religion, culture, or politics, individuals can share universal reciprocity of responsibility and love (Vincensi, 2019).
Spiritual interconnectedness has important implications in nursing practice. The interconnection of spiritual care, spirituality, and patient-centered care has implications for specialty care nurses and advanced practice nurses in their everyday practice. Spirituality promotes hope, coping, and resilience during an illness, and is an inner resource for health. This in turn encourages health as well as achievement of better patient outcomes. Provision of spirituality and individual spirituality has been established as important in promoting relationship development which supports wellness and health (Vincensi, 2019). In addition, according to Arrey et al. (2016), religion/spirituality serves vital roles in survival, coping, and maintaining of a patient’s overall wellbeing. People who believe that God can intervene in treating diseases tend to believe in prayers, regular church service, meditation, and religion as the main spiritual resource for realizing their interconnectedness with God. Spirituality plays an important role in improving and maintaining mental and physical wellbeing in some religious patients. This should be taken into consideration during delivery of care and when designing and developing a healthy healthcare environment (Arrey et al., 2016).
