  1. QUESTION
    Marketing Management
Section One (Length: One Paragraph)–What specifically is the problem you will address and what, specifically is the solution you are offering? Your solution is your “position statement” and is similar to the idea of the thesis or purpose statement you should be familiar with from other types of writing. The key here is focus on the one main issue that you will address. Often the cases have many issues. We are not looking for a restating of the case. Instead, we want you to zero in on the key issue you see and then providing a specific recommendation/solution.

Section Two (Length: 2-3 Paragraphs)–Here you should provide details from the case which relate to your position statement. Too often the tendency is to retell the case narrative. This is not MBA work and is not an efficient use of your time. Instead, the listing of details should move beyond the obvious. Here you should demonstrate your analysis at work. What meaning are you making from the details? How are you interpreting the relevant facts to support your position statement?

Section Three (Length: 2-3 Paragraphs)–In the final section you will be expected to provide a specific action plan including an accounting of potential risks. This is the key case skill as demonstrated by a written case. The action plan steps should be specific and realistic for the given case scenario. Any potential risks should also be acknowledged and incorporated into your overall plan of action

Answer

    • Mountain Man Brewing Company

Rethinking a company brand is a process that is often challenged by a series of risks. The company may end up experiencing a loss instead of a profit when the current consumers become detached. In Mountain Man Brewing Company, Chris is experiencing a dilemma on whether to introduce the new product line of Mountain Man Light. Currently, the company has been mainly producing Mountain Man Lager which appealed to the older men in the society. However, its profitability has reduced significantly due to the changing customer preferences. This dilemma that Chris is currently experiencing will be analysed before recommending whether or not the new Mountain Man Light should be introduced.

      Presentation of Challenges

Mountain Man Brewing Company has experienced declining sales for the first time in history. This is proof that the company needs to rethink its brand. Unfortunately, it may end up losing its current target consumers who may think that the brand is now offering light beers. The brand developed to encompass the previous larger and the new light beer extension appears confusing to consumers. On one hand, the older generation have assumed that the company may end up messing with the content and quality of the Mountain Man Lager (Abelli, 2007). On the other hand, the younger generation still assumes that the resulting product will be too strong for them to consume. Therefore, it is evident that a middle ground is needed to ensure that both parties understand the uniqueness of these two products.

Currently, Mountain Man Brewing Company has positioned itself as a brand that serves men aged 45 and older (Abelli, 2007). This history has already been established in the current market. Therefore, convincing others that it now offers products for the younger generation may be quite challenging. Additionally, Mountain Man Lager featured a distinctive bitter flavour and a slightly higher than average alcohol content. These factors contributed greatly to the company’s brand equity. Therefore, by changing the alcohol content and flavour, the company will be altering the characteristics that make it widely accepted by its current target market (Abelli, 2007). This is yet another reason why Chris is facing a dilemma.

Therefore, Chris needs to make a decision since maintain the current brand will mean even more declining sales in the following years since the target market is changing. Many individuals are now preferring the light beer to the strong lagers being produced by the company. On the other hand, the current effort made to introduce the light beer to a focus group has triggered mixed reactions and confusion.

      Action Plan

Chris should go ahead and introduce the Light beer extension. However, some risks may be expected with this course of action. Loyal customers may be unwilling to accept the changes made by the company. They may get worried that the new product will interfere with the availability and quality of their products. This may lead to further declined sales as more consumers choose to move to competitor companies. Also, the company may invest a lot of resources in the product then it fails to break even, or takes too long to do so. That is because the light beer market is already saturated by other companies that have produced these as the primary products right from the start.

These risks may be addressed in various ways. Before the introduction of the Mountain Man Light product, it is important that the company conducts a vigorous brand marketing which introduces the new brand. The consumers need to understand that it is still the same company, but with diversified products. The consumers who prefer the larger should be reassured that the quality and content of their product has not been interfered with. On the other hand, the new Mountain Man Light should be encouraged that the new product will meet their needs and expectations.

      ANSWER

A Brief History of Restorative Justice

Restorative justice is an approach employed in criminal justice where the offenders are rehabilitated by reconciling them with the victims as well as the general society. Usually, a neutral party organizes a meeting between the offended, the offender, and may also involve the representatives of the wider community.  The main focus of restorative justice is to aid in repairing the harm done by the victim’s criminal behavior. It is best accomplished via cooperative processes where the involved parties come to a meeting, however other possible approaches may also employ. The task focuses on conducting A Brief History of Restorative Justice.

Restorative justice roots to ancient and indigenous practices done in various cultures all over the world from Native Americans, First nation Canadians, Africans, Asians, Celtics, Hebrews, and Arabs, among others (MacFaul 2017). Although this process was not understudied yet, it was widely employed in various cultures around the world and made a greater impact on both the offender and the offended unlike only hunting and dealing with the offender alone.

In the modern days, a new approach of restorative justice began around the 1970s when the offenders and their victims were reconciled and mediated. In 1974 Mark Yatzy, who was a probation officer, organized a direct meeting between two teenagers with their victims following a vandalism spree and agree to restitution (Marder 2019). The victims responded positively and this led to the reconciliation and mediation process becoming a success. This then becomes the first victim-offender reconciliation program, in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, with the support of the Mennonite Central Committee and collaboration with the local probation department. It then spread through North America and Europe in the 1980s and 1990s. Around the world, the concept then spread and it acquired various names. Some named it victim-offender mediation and victim-offender dialogue among others

Later the modern restorative justice became broader and finally encompassed a community of care, with victims’ and offenders’ families and friends to collaboratively participate in the entire steps termed as circles and conferences (Mousoukaris 2020). Through the conferences imbalances in power that exist between the offenders and victims are addressed and other witnesses on both sides can also be included. In 1989, the family group conference was started in New Zealand to respond to the concerns made by Maori people where several children were being removed from the home by the courts. This process was seen as a community empowerment project before it was viewed as an example of restorative justice. The North Americans viewed it as family group decision making. To divert young people from the court, Australian police officer, Terry O’Connell, employed a family group conference as a community policing strategy in 1991 (Clamp 2016).

Although modern restorative justice has earned different names in various regions around the world, the process remains relatively similar and only differs a few minor modifications. Among other methods of delivering justice socially based restorative justice remains one of the processes that can be employed based on the level of satisfaction, it brings to both the offender, the offended, and the general community.
