Moses and Pharaohas Narrated in the Story of Exodus
Exodus is one of the most interesting Bible stories that indicate the power of God to His people. The story has pharaoh and David as the major characters. The two demonstrate significant differences and similarities in various aspects. For instance, Moses, the chosen leader for the Israelites was raised in Egypt in the king’s palace. He received the best while living in the palace and had all the wisdom to deliver the people of Israel from the cruel rule of the Egyptians. On the other hand, Pharaoh was the Egyptian leader, who ruled with iron claws (Purcell, 2020). Thus, both Moses and Pharaoh were leaders of their own people. Pharaoh was proud and ruthless. He had no regard for human life as long as his objectives were achieved. However, he was also a determined leader. Moses was patient, strategic, brave, and kind. His determination made it possible for the people of Israelites to escape Egyptians. He was faithful and a believer in Christ. Moses, upon understanding that he came from the tribe of the Israelites, became conscious of the problems that his people faced in Egypt and accepted the responsibility to deliver them from the Pharaoh. Pharaoh was motivated to prove that the God of the Israelites was less powerful compared to the gods of Egypt. On the other hand, Moses was motivated to deliver God’s people from the sufferings they experienced in Egypt.
Moses was seen as a hero of the Israelites community since he left the comfort of the palace and made the journey out with the Israelites. Moses was educated since he took advantage of the learning opportunities in the king’s palace to enrich his knowledge on various aspects of the time. Primarily, Mosses was the most educated member of the Israelite community at the time. Thus, he earned great respect among the members of his community. Moses was not, god, he worshipped the true God of Israelites (Purcell, 2020). God used him as a vessel to save His people from Egypt. On the other hand, Pharaoh was a religious figure and was considered as a god. He was a very powerful man in the kingdom and gave final decisions on all the affairs of hiskingdom. However, the status that Pharaoh enjoyed among the Egyptians was not the same to Israelites. All Israelites hated him because of his activities against them. It was because of the positions they held among their people that made the two men to treat one another with respect despite the differences that existed between them. The two men were obsessed with protecting their people and it was difficult for either of them to drop the demands.
While Pharaoh was driven by self-interest and the desire to conquer the people of Israel, Moses was completing a will of God. He understood the need for his people and he was genuine in trying to help them escape the cruelty of Egyptian rule. The motivation for Pharaoh and Moses is the mantle and need for leadership (Purcell, 2020). The actions undertaken by Moses demonstrated the existence of the true God. Moses inspired Israelites to believe and praise the name of God, since He is the one who would deliver them, “The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him…” (Exodus 1:2 NIV).On the other hand, Pharaoh was proud and wanted to go to any extend to justify the power of the Egyptian Gods. In the end, Moses successfully crossed the red sea in a significant manifestation of the power of God. That is, he split the waters of the Red Sea, which allowed only Israelites to pass and swallowed the Egyptians. Moses activities of Moses in the story signifies that power of God and his commitment to fulfill His promise to His people
