    (1) Present summary descriptive statistics for demographic variables (age, gender, weight, height) at baseline, for the group as a whole and by diet (2) What are the findings from the statistical test (pre vs post) to see if weight has been lost across the group as a whole? (3) What are the findings from the statistical test to determine which of the 3 diets was best for losing weight? (4) What are the findings from the statistical test to see whether there are gender differences for weight lost? SECTION A Write up the findings and present data that addresses the objectives of the research study (above). You should present data in the style of a results section in a journal article (500 words). Tables and Figures form part of the word count and should be included within the text. You should interpret the findings (e.g. for statistical significance) but do not need to discuss the wider context. You will be given an exemplar article in week 10 that you should use as a guide for how to present results for an academic audience. SECTION B This should demonstrate your theoretical and practical understanding about the analytical processes and statistical techniques

Sample Solution

The objective of this study was to investigate whether three different diets could lead to weight loss, and any gender differences for weight lost. Descriptive statistics for baseline demographic variables (age, gender, weight and height), as well as findings from statistical tests for both overall group changes in weight across time and comparisons between the three diets are presented below. Table 1 shows summary descriptive statistics for each variable at baseline by diet group. The mean age was 37.9 years with no significant difference between groups (p=0.18). There were slightly more female participants than males (54% vs 46%), with no statistically significant difference between diet groups (p=0.45). Average body mass index at baseline ranged from 28-29kg/m2 across all diets; there was no statistically significant difference between groups here either (p=0.47). For height, there were no statistically significant differences between groups either, ranging from 164-165cm across all 3 diets (p=0.25).
