My Favorable Climate Type
Climate is the long-term weather pattern of an area studied for approximately 30 years, and thus it gives the general description of the temperature and precipitation of a given region. The most preferred climate would be the Mediterranean climate because of its warm temperatures. I would prefer to live here since areas with this climate generally experience low humidity and low temperatures during summer, and the winters are mild. Regions experiencing this climate type lie on the Western side of continents in the middle latitudes of 30 and 45 degrees (Physical Geography: Weather and Climate). They include Central Chile, the Mediterranean, South Africa, and Southern California. The Mediterranean climate has several advantages and disadvantages as highlighted in the subsequent sections.
In the Mediterranean climate, precipitation occurs from the frontal fronts when west mid-latitude winds blow from Northern and Southern hemispheres. One of the advantages that this climate has is that with the rainfall experienced in winter as a result of cyclonic storms supports agricultural growth during the season (Physical Geography: Weather and Climate). In addition, the low humidity is favorable health wise as well as in farming activities since damp conditions are infamous for encouraging plant diseases that would otherwise result in little produce. The summers become hot when the subtropical highs shift towards the pole. These hot summers attract tourists, thereby encouraging economic growth. The Mediterranean climate is also favorable in growing native plants and enjoying outdoor living due to the infrequent rainfalls and more extended periods of warm weather.
While the Mediterranean climate might be favorable for living, it has some disadvantages as well. For instance, regions with this climate type, especially in the middle latitudes, are marked by warm to hot temperatures except for the areas cooled by oceanic westerly winds. Moreover, vegetation in these regions comprises of shrubby evergreens and deciduous trees such as oak (Physical Geography: Weather and Climate). The vegetation sometimes experiences fires, which are prevalent in severe summers and during fall. Furthermore, the infrequent rainfalls often force farmers to practice irrigation, especially during the drought season of summer.
