Answer

Nursing Education and Positive Patient Outcomes

The healthcare industry is becoming increasingly more complex, thus requiring higher standards of knowledge. The classification of patient care and protection is being restructured and improved. Consequently, the need for qualified medical providers that handle everyday challenges is essential (Hariyati & Safril, 2018). This paper aims to discuss the correlation between nursing education and positive patient outcomes. The paper will base its discussions on existing literature discussing the impact of nurse education on patient outcomes.

Mackey April and Sandra Bassendowski identified that nursing literacy level is significantly correlated with patient outcomes. In their article published in 2017, The History of Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing Education and Practice, the researchers indicate that nurses trained at the baccalaureate-level are more associated with decreased errors, fatality, and failure-to-rescue rates (Mackey & Bassendowski, 2017). Utilizing administrative data and surveys from forty-five units across nine infirmaries, the researchers examined hierarchical patterns of the relationship linking a BSN education, communication, profession surrounding, and patient results. The research identified that a 10% increment in the proportion of baccalaureate-prepared nurses on infirmary units decreased the probabilities of patient fatality by 10.9% (Hariyati & Safril, 2018).

Based on real-life experience, I agree with Mackey and Bassendowski’s (2017) article. Enhanced education for RNs reduces medical errors that may impact patient outcomes. BSN practitioners are recognized as supportive care providers able to work in any environment and ensure patient safety (Braithwaite, Herkes, Ludlow, Testa & Lamprell, 2017).  Conclusively, Mackey and Bassendowski associate nurses with a baccalaureate of science in nursing with a decrease in medical errors and patient fatality rates.
