Answer
Nursing Knowledge and Theory Development
The knowledge possessed by nurses helps them to define their profession. Though nursing is dynamic and evolving, it is essential to note that their professional accountability guides nurses. Theory of development in nursing is a progressive attempt to try and advance knowledge in the field of nursing. Research is the main component for the advancement of nursing knowledge (Alligood, 2017). Theory development commences with a theory brought forth, which addresses a particular gap in the nursing sector. The theory follows some considerations from a group of nurses who then analyze and put forth recommendations.
There are several steps involved in theory development, and it is vital to comprehend the model of systematic theory development. The theory should be precise and address a particular issue in depth; the idea should have a recurring order of results and impacts its adoption clear. Nurses would then study and critique the theory where possible to determine its applicability (Roy, 2018).
Nursing theory helps develop effective and efficient ways, for example, the introduction of machines that help monitor patients’ health. Vigorous research and disseminating approaches have led to the introduction of devices that monitor patients’ health without the need for nurses being around (Reed & Shearer, 2017). The development has increased the number of patients being attended with ease hence reducing congestion.
The theory of Comfort by Katharine Kolcaba has had the most significant impact on my professional experience. This theory is divided into three parts which are relief, ease, and transcendence. It is important to note that patients are usually tensed when coming for medical help—for example, pregnant women and people involved in accidents. A nurse needs to learn how to create a good atmosphere and calm the patient to know to administer the required medical help.
