• Select one metaparadigm (person, health, nursing, or environment).
• Describe the metaparadigm’s significance specific to your nursing practice.
• Compare and contrast two nursing theorists' individual definitions/interpretations of the selected nursing metaparadigm (person, health, nursing, or environment).
• Be sure to supplement your discussion with your personal and professional experiences.
Responses need to address all components of the question, demonstrate critical thinking and analysis, and include peer reviewed journal evidence to support the student’s position.
Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.

Answer
Nursing Metaparadigms
The environment is defined as the external and internal conditions or surroundings that affect the client (Wayne, 2021). The environment is an important nursing metaparadigm that can shape the nursing and general health outcomes in patients. The environment can directly or indirectly affect the patient. It is conceptualized that the environment comprises of external and internal factors and the manner in which an individual continuously interacts with these factors has a bearing on their wellness and health. For example, the manner in which an individual interacts with family, workmates, friends, and other people is as important as the impact of other environmental factors such as economic conditions and social factors on health. Besides, other factors such as social connections, geographic locations, technology and culture have also been found as having significant impact on health (Career Trend, 2021).
According to Environmental Theory by Florence Nightingale argued that the environment of a given patient can be utilized or modified to improve the wellbeing or recovery of the patient in question. Nightingale stated that the nursing process should utilize the proper use of light, fresh air, cleanliness, proper selection and administration of diet, and quiet environment all at the least-expense of vital-power to the patient (Wayne, 2021). On the other hand, other people are part of the environment and Theory of Interpersonal Relations by Hildegard E. Peplau focused on the importance of interpersonal process of therapeutic interactions to influence patient outcomes. A nurse should be able to recognize and respond to the needs of the patients. Depending on a given clinical environment, nurses should develop appropriate therapeutic interventions (Wayne, 2021). According to Thompson and Barcott (2017), an exposure is considered as a sufficient as well as necessary link between health and environment. For example, exposure to environmental chemicals can result in adverse health consequences (Thompson & Barcott, 2017). In my opinion environment shapes both physical health and mental wellbeing.
