Answer
Nursing Scholarship Statement
I am the first person in our family to have graduated from high school and, therefore, the first to attend university. Both of my parents were unable to complete their school, and being the first born in our family, they are doing all that they can to ensure that I get the best of what education is and that I may be a role model to my siblings. Due to their limited education, my parents have always worked in entry-level posts, hardly earning enough to warrant daily meals. In some instances, we have had to be evicted from our rented house because my parents could not pay rent. These experiences have pricked me to the heart and I keep on telling myself that I needed to work hard to extricate our family from the quagmire of poverty. I began looking for menial jobs from which I could raise some pocket money during school days and also support my parents where I could. I got my first job at the age of 14 years as a deliverer of papers and continued to work hard from that time to relieve my family from financial and other associated pressure.
Despite our family’s low socio-economic status, I committed myself to serious studies with a desire to eventually become a medical practitioner. I am focused on becoming the best medical practitioner with sufficient confidence in my job abilities and skills to assist patients and to be a source of assurance to the patients. These determinations are informed by the experiences and frustrations that we have had to undergo due to our low socio-economic status. To be particular, I almost lost my sibling to acute pneumonia because we could not raise sufficient fee to allow her start receiving treatment. The care providers showed little compassion to the ailing child. Since I do not want other families to go through such and other painful experiences, I desire to be a medical practitioner of great repute.
Academically, I would like to indicate that I am superb. At high school, I obtained good scores at the end of every term. At the end of my high school training, I was among the best performers in terms of grade and, and thus, received invitation to join university. Among the subjects that I scored highly are Mathematics and the other science subjects. The excellent grades in the science subjects placed me on vantage grounds to pursue a science related course. Coupled with my childhood dream of becoming a medical practitioner, I have realized that I qualify for nursing. Thus, I am more than prepared to study nursing in the university.
However, the only barrier to realizing my dream of becoming a medical practitioner is finances to fund my nursing programme. Nursing programme comes with huge fees and supplementary requirements. My family is financially handicapped and cannot provide the fees and the supplementary needs like my living expenses. I cannot also fully rely on the menial jobs that I usually do to raise sufficient funds for my course since an engagement in the same will not allow me to have adequate time to do my readings, assignments and term papers, among other course requirements. The scholarship will, therefore, be of great significance in my university study. The scholarship will cover my tuition fees and finance my living expense during the full length of the course. The scholarship will also help me pay for supplies, books, and transportation to campus since we will be residing in hostels outside the school. With no worries of where fees would be coming from, I will have a conducive environment for my studies, knowing from my friends that nursing programme is involving and requires a lot of commitment.
From my academic and financial situation as I have explained above, I strong believe that I should be awarded the scholarship. The scholarship will help me a great deal to pay for my school fees, cater for my living expense and transportation, as well as allow me spend most of my time on studies as opposed to engaging in other income generating means that would only leave with too little time to focus on my studies. Kindly consider me for the scholarship since without it, realizing my dream of becoming a nurse may face serious hurdles that may be hard to surmount.
