- Select a colleague and seek their permission to conduct a peer evaluation with them. Provide the guide to peer evaluation if they are unfamiliar with the process, and respond to any of their questions.
- Decide on the teaching episode you will evaluate and the activities you will provide feedback on. Select the appropriate tool for the observation and evaluation report.
- have the observation session of teaching with your colleague
- have a post observation discussion about the teaching episode
- reflect on the peer evaluation experience and your own learning
- write a report of the evaluation outcomes, including your reflections on learning, ensuring you maintain confidentiality and anonymity of your colleague
Here is what l have chosen

Peer Evaluation
Peer evaluation is one of the educational approaches which can be used in the enhancement of learner experience. In specific, peer evaluation is an aspect of collaborative learning where students are asked to have a critical examination of a task, assess their peers, and propose constructive suggestions for improvement (Reinholz, 2016). One of the benefits of peer assessment is that learners can judge the performance of their peers and provide them with opportunities for improvement (Hwang et al., 2014). The purpose of this paper is to report on a peer evaluation I did on my colleague. The design used in the peer assessment as well as the methods will be provided. Additionally, a reflection will be done on the learnings obtained from the peer evaluation.
Peer Evaluation Report
Peer Evaluation Design
The first step in the peer evaluation was to select a colleague and get permission from her. In specific, I explained to her the peer evaluation process and why it is vital for me and my course. I responded to the various questions that she asked such as why I needed to evaluate her. I promised her that the information she was to provide would be used for academic purposes only and not revealed to third parties without her permission. Such an assurance aimed to align with the confidentiality principle in peer evaluation (Tai et al., 2016). The teaching episode that I sought to evaluate was on teaching about clozapine medication. In specific, I sought to assess the understanding of my peer on this lecture episode. I aimed to assess whether or not my peer had grasped the various concepts taught on questioning style and engagement with learners. I had an observation session teaching with my colleague, where I observed how she deployed the different questioning styles and how she engaged with her learners (Burgess, McGregor & Mellis, 2014). The appropriate tool that I used was the lecture observation record whereby I recorded my colleague’s questioning styles and learner engagement.
Methods of Peer Assessment
In my lecture observation record, one of the methods of assessments that I used on my colleague was peer rating. In specific, after observing her teach and engage with learners, I used the observations that I had recorded to rate her based on several key goals (Adachi et al., 2018). One of the goals was her ability to question the learners and get as much information out of them as possible in their understanding of different concepts. Additionally, I rated my peer based on how she engaged with the learners. For instance, I used my observation records on how she could interact with the learners during the teaching and learning. The other method of peer assessment that I used was peer ranking. In this case, I used the various aspects I had learned in my course to rank my peer on a scale of 0-10 (Zentz et al., 2014). The use of peer rating and ranking was justified because it ensured that I could objectively tell my peer how she performed (Jones & Alcock, 2014). Additionally, using rating gave her constructive feedback and an opportunity for development.formats (like conference recordings) and more information from various databases and organizations’ websites.
